Mission: Death before dishonor
Location: Starbase 364
Timeline: Present

On:
{Starbase 364, Diplomacy section}

Kevin watched as Mira dematerialized from the turbolift. She must be really mad, he through, she hadn’t even wanted to hear an explanation. Well, he had his orders. He was to deal with the Odinskus and the Federation personnel back in the dining room. He turned away from the turbolift and trudged back to the gathering. At least the Klingons had removed themselves.

Mira’s sudden departure nagged at him as he walked. The medical emergency didn’t involve the children so what was the urgency that she had to be transported rather than take the turbolift? The voice over the comm badge wasn’t familiar so Kevin suspected that it wasn’t from the Norris. He stopped and tapped his comm badge outside of the dining room.

“Lance to Norris,” he called, “Did the Captain make it back to the ship?”

“Montgomery here,” the second officer replied, “We didn’t expect to see you until much later.”

“Things went sideways,” Kevin explained in as little detail as possible.

“With you two, it usually does,” Montgomery quipped, “but no, Captain Rodale is not on the ship.”

“So, no medical emergency”

“Nothing here,” was the reply from the Norris.

“Stand by,” Kevin ordered. He tapped his comm badge again, “Computer, find Captain Mira Rodale Lance”

“Captain Lance is on the medical deck,” the computer replied.

That tracks, he thought. But why the urgency?

{Starbase 364, medical deck}

Mira appeared in a medical decon room. “What the hell. I said no.”

“Just calm down Captain and please change into the medical gown. We are prepping the surgical room right now.” The woman in white told her.

“You can go to hell, I said no. Now Let me out of here.” Mira yelled then put her hands on her hips.

“Oh for heavens sake. Fine, waste time but the host is dying and the symbiont must be implanted. Immediately before it dies as well.”

“No. Now Let me out.” Mira told her.

“You’re a Trill. All Trill beg to get a chance at a symbiont. You even went to training, your young, healthy and you’re a perfect match.” The doctor told her with a great deal of impatience.

Mira growled this witch was messing with her carefully laid out plan to keep her brother from finding out she had a symbiont. She bit her lip. “I have refused 5 times now. I am demanding Security be called in on charges of false imprisonment and kidding. I am a member of the high council and a Federation captain. You will release me right now.”

A man walked to the window “Get into your gown! I’ll have none of your stubbornness. Your going to save my wife then you will go back with me to finish the negotiations!”

Mira tapped her comm badge three times sending an emergency signal to her ship. In the mood she was in, if these jerks hadn’t been on the other side of the glass she would have killed them. This was a night from hell. Maybe with her luck she was in Gre’thor and she would end up being eaten by Fek’lhr.

“I am not going to be a host to your wife’s symbiont buddy. I AM already married and I have two children. I am not going anywhere to finish anything with you.”

The man turned red faced “Sedate her and perform the operation.”

“but if she doesn’t want….” The doctor started to tell him only to be cut off by the man. “She doesn’t know what’s good for her and will feel different after the joining.”

“I’ll kill both of you even if you managed to get that thing in me. Ill rip it out and shoved it right down you throat.” Mira told him.

The man took a step back “you wouldn’t dare, you would die too.”

Mira shrugged “so but not before you choked to death. As long as I see you dead I can die happily.” Mira told him honestly.

The doctor tapped the comm button ending conversation. “this may not work out Ambassador dalar lugir. The woman clearly doesn’t what the procedure done.”

The man looked at the doctor “has a mental Valuation been done on her?” At any rate it would safe his wife and they could always remove the symbiont later and place it in a better host. Of course this little troublemaker would die but that wasn’t his problem. He and his wife saved worlds. What was one death to such greatness?

The doctor nodded, “She is a star fleet captain.”

Lugir nodded “she speaks 43 different languages and as Trill. Under Trill law she must comply. Sedate her. Let's get this over with.”

Mira's eyes widened. son of targ! She hit the glass with her fist a few times then looked around the room for something heavy to break the glass. She couldn’t hear them any more. This was the last time she was leaving the ship without Vaytoc then she start to smell something odd but couldn’t place it.

By all that was holy her temper was going to get her killed. That was what Ambassador M’Niras always told her. She wonder what they would do once they found out she had a non- sanctioned symbiont. Probably wouldn’t make any difference. Her hand covered her stomach as she started feeling dizzy and her vision darken. They had drugged her? By all that was……………

She hit the floor.

“I’ll put her on the table for you Doctor..”

(Security room)

Awal sat at his desk reading several padds.

{Starbase 364, Diplomacy section}

“Montgomery to Lance,” the voice on the comm badge was nearly frantic.

“Lance, here,” Kevin answered.

“We just received the Captain’s duress code over comms!”

Void! Kevin thought, I shouldn’t have let her go. “Beam me to her location immediately!”

“That isn’t a good idea, Commander,” Montgomery cautioned. Pinpoint beaming inside a structure as big as a starbase was risky at best. “We have notified starbase security.”

“Hang safety,” Kevin shouted back, “Energize! Now!”

{Starbase 364, medical deck}

A wave of nausea overcame him as he materialized on the medical deck causing Kevin to double over and retch. The last second adjustment by the transported to avoid an object could have that effect especially as the distance of the shift increased. Kevin wiped the saliva and vomit from his mouth as he looked up.

{USS Chuck Norris}

“Can we get a lock on her?” Montgomery asked.

“no she is in.. . Something that is interfering with her signature.”

He cursed, he had a team going after her from the ship, the base had a team sent as well. What had happened?

A weak voice came over the comm with allot of static “Norris. .help.” then nothing.

=/\= Ensign Drake here sir we have another problem. Vaytoc is sitting on the transporter pad hissing at us. He looks very angry.=/\=

Montgomery’s hands formed fists “that is him letting us know he has to get to the captain. She is in danger. “

Chan turned in his seat “should we just send him?”

Montgomery frowned “you wouldn’t believe what I had to go through to get permission for a point to point beam to medical! They would never go for a wild cat running around the base. See if you can calm him down. Tell him Lance is going to get her. What ever the problem is Lance will fix it and offer a steak or something. It works when Mira does it.”

Chin frown. “Yeah but I am not the captain. He listens better to the kids then anyone else besides her.” He laughed nervously before getting up to see if he could do something to help.

{Transporter room, USS Chuck Norris}

Zimia frown at the Cat “listen here you big fur ball. Your on baby guard duty. “ She tried to attach the leash to his collar. Only to get a huge paw swiped at her. “Vaytoc!”

Chin ran in “hey buddy. We know Mira is in trouble and Lance is going to get her now. How about a steak and we will wait for them to get back?”

That only brought on a very angry sound from the cat. Zimia bit her lip looking worried. “what happened?” she asked him.

Chin frown “I am not sure. Commander Lance said she got called away for a medical emergency, then we got a distress code from her.”

“Maybe you could take Vaytoc down to find her.” Zimia told him handing him the leash.

Chin laughed “as if I can control him.”

Vaytoc's rumble changed pitch right before the door swished open. SSgt Deena hurried in, bumping into Vaytoc to scoot him over as she moved into position on the pad. She looked at Chin and Zimia, "Who's going? CHOP CHOP!"

Vaytoc sat back on his circle, glancing back at Deena's gaze on him, with a growl as if to indicate agreement. Deena looked at the board operator. "As close as you can get us Ensign!"

{Starbase 364, en route to medical deck}

K'ner used the broadcast speaker on her suit to amplify her voice "CLEAR THE CORRIDOR!" She didn't so much as pause or even slow down as she moved at a rapid pace, followed by several more serious-looking individuals moving just as quickly.

K'ner keyed her messenger, confirming their location to Korra so she could open the hatch just ahead of them. Undoubtedly she would be monitoring their movement, but K'ner wasn't going to leave anything to chance, or some random (or purposeful) interference that would cause a delay in reaching the captain.

To anyone watching, they would be certain that the team was about to slam into a wall as the hatch was closed, but then it shifted open, just seconds ahead of their arrival. K'ner tucked up and dropped in the shaft, tapping her pulsar unit to as she fell, counting the levels.

'...four more...' K'ner sent another signal to open the next hatch and added more resistance at two... then slammed it at the last one, grabbing the bar just inside the opening hatch and swinging out into the new corridor, repeating her loudspeaker command as she rolled and stood, already running.

K'ner continued across the short expanse, hearing the hard smacks behind her of the team landing each in turn.

"Oh my... they've locked the door chief." Korra didn't sound worred, but K'ner could hear the clicks of keys and buttons in the background.

"Six seconds," was about all K'ner could say, because the door would either open, or her method of expedient entrance would likely be cause for several meetings afterwards regarding damage, etc., etc.

Just as K'ner was about to ready a breaching charge, she heard Korra's voice, "Take That!" The door seemed to open ever so slowly when you're moving at the rate they were and she knew she'd probably scrape on her way through the gap.

{Starbase 364, medical deck}

The doctor continued to prep for the procedure, even if she was rather frustrated at the sequence of events. She had no real idea of interspecies and interregional policies in this case but the ambassador was rather insistent and they did have a lot of leeway and influence from what she understood. And this was an emergency procedure to save the symbiont even where they couldn't save the host in time.

Ambassador Dalar Lugir had stepped out of the way just enough to ensure these imbeciles were doing what he demanded. He was operating at a level of importance they couldn't dream of. He didn't even pay any attention to the muted commotion outside the surgical wing...

K'ner was watching the room layout on her HUD as the team cleared spaces. The captain's comm badge had been locked out, which means she wasn't wearing it anymore and someone had covered it or put it in some shielded container. That last location was her and Kotsoo's destination but the others were leaving nothing to chance along the way.

Barging in the next surgical suite, Korra had triggered a klaxon, but unknown to the occupants, it wasn't base-wide, or even the whole medical bay. But it did back up what K'ner announced in a loud and forceful manner as she burst in.

"We've received warning of a tangible threat. All personnel will exit the area in a safe and orderly manner. NOW!" It was a quick way to get attention and, as intended, everyone froze where they were.

Ambassador Dalar Lugir waddled in her direction, the first to recover. "You are interfering in a procedure of vital importance to Starfleet operations and the continued existence of a highly ranked symbiont of..."

K'ner had already surveyed the room and come to her own conclusion, ticking off prepared messages to trigger what would happen next. "Don't worry sir, we will see that you are protected at all costs. The medical team will be relocated to safety promptly." She wasn't sure who the pompous windbag was, and just as sure she'd hear about it later, but...

Kotsoo had moved next to and behind the blustering suit and began to usher him towards the door, handing him off to Taz and Peke with some comment of security for a critical asset... They hustled the man down the corridor amidst his attempts to tell them otherwise, and yelling about the procedure. He was assured everything was being done.

K'ner walked towards the operating suite, standing next to the doctor as the prep nurses backed up. "You will cease your procedure doctor. You should do what you can to stabilize the ailing symbiont while you can, but this... agent of chaos is coming with me!"

The woman in white opened and closed her mouth several times, "But," and apparently not knowing what to do with her hands. K'ner saw the scans were starting and slapped her hand down to interrupt them. If the captain hadn't mentioned her own symbiont, which would preclude any such procedure to implant one, then they didn't know, and hadn't fully analyzed and prepped the captain yet either.

K'ner slid her suit's visor open and leaned down, blocking the immediate view from the others, the tendrils on her face moving of their own accord. Something hissed and impacted Mira's forehead as K'ner reached over for a probe and passed it over the area. She leaned back up, looking at the readout.

"Infected! I can't believe you were about to place a symbiont into an infected host! Rest assured, I will be following up on this incident and rampant disregard for proper procedures!" Her tone and expression left the doctor further speechless, and her assistants had backed up further as well.

"But..."

"MOVE OUT NOW!" K'ner's visor snapped up as the group flinched and ran out as one, the other members of Haz Team helpfully pointing the way out. She wasn't sure just how far they'd run before one of them figured out there was no danger, but they'd be long gone before then.

K'ner got back on the horn with Korra. "You have our exfil?"

"Yup, follow the blinking line. We have auth to do a clean transporter from that location. ETA, 70 seconds. The XO is headed in your direction."

K'ner swirled her finger in the air and they bundled up the intrepid captain, moving out with continued haste of their own in a different direction than the others... and really interested in her story this time.

=/\= "K'ner to XO... Coming to you. Don't have all the details, but you may need to grab and go. I'll keep two and hold this end." =/\=

{Janitorial closet, medical waste}

The Ambassador continued his blustering as the duo escorting him continued with their own platitudes of ensuring his safety for the good of the commonwealth. Taz was ever her formal self, reinforcing his continued belief in the danger present and the threat would be contained.

As a door swished open, the two stopped, allowing the Ambassador to finally stop running, his lungs heaving quite heavy as he bent over to catch breath. When he finally turned, the doors were closed and he looked around the dimly lit space...
