{Outside Annvell's Settlement}

The sun had set and the away team were sitting around a campfire enjoying the last of their evening meal. Several of Annvell's people had joined them, sharing their food in a communal setting that was jovial.

Vaytoc was lying on his back surrounded by several children who were alternately scratching him and feeding him bits of meat. If it were raw gagh, Vaytoc would have thought that he had died and gone to Sto'vo'kor.

Crewman Rogar's implementation of Mira's instructions had been successful in getting the Paarthian females to ignore Kronnelti. They now mostly directed their attentions to Crewman Lockhart.

Kevin sat close to Mira to give the impression that he was off-limits.

K'ner had been drifting in and out, occasionally with Deeka or Jayne, who'd introduced her around. She'd reported the general state of their defenses, which were decent for the locals, but atrocious for a large enough force to simply overrun. K'ner pointed out weaknesses, tactfully, explaining the easiest corrections to improve their fortifications.

Later in the night, K'ner was walking with others, talking about offenses, something they hadn't often considered. K'ner knew just shoring up the defenses would only go so far, and inevitably lead to defeat if they couldn't do something to dissuade an attacking force, make them believe that it was too costly to continue. In the end, she started them down a path to a stronger position with some leverage...

"Your healer, K'ner," Annvell said to Mira, "has given us some good ideas for improving our settlement but I have found that the best policy is to give Grendaas what he wants and not be a bother to him. Grendaas isn't the type to kill the milk boveeni as long as its producing and doesn't threaten him."

"Boot if somewons was to taykee someding from im," Kevin asked, "hees wood bee mad, no?"

Annvell looked at him suspiciously, "He'd be very mad and liable to chase you down and kill you just for trying. No one gets away with stealing from the Grendaas."

"I wills keeeep dat in mind wane I makes a deel wid im."

Kronnelti lays down by the fire looking up at the sky, he thinks about his wife and child.

Mira gave a raised eyebrow to K'ner about giving these people ideas. "What do you do when a scavenger kills and takes more than you can spare?"

Annvell nodded. "Get together, hunt it, and kill it."

Mira nodded she had thought so. "I think that is all she meant Annvell. We protect our people the best we can." Mira wanted to say so much more but didn't. She leaned into Kevin.

Kevin put his arm around Mira but was lost in thought. He had been hoping that they would be able to recover the scientists from Grendaas without provoking a response. Annvell's comment ended any hope of that and based on his experience trading with the Paarthians over the past several days, the price of a negotiated solution was likely to be more than they would pay. He would need an escape plan as well as a rescue plan.

{ Morning... }

K'ner wanders in as the crew rouses and goes about their morning ablutions. Her local clothing and wraps look a little damp, and she smells freshly washed and has a daisy tucked into one of the folds on her head scarf. She sits to catch some breakfast before everyone has to pack up and head down the road...

Mira awoke early and freshened up before starting to do her stretches. Then, the Mok'bara. She had walked a little ways from the village, so when she turned around, she hadn't expected there to be a small group of women watching her. She hesitated before doing the second set with her blade. With the blade, you could tell the reasons behind the moves.

Kronnelti had taken to joining her in the morning when he wasn't on watch. He grinned as he joined her. "I see you have created some interest."

Mira smiled. "So it would seem. Good morning, brother." Mira told him before he started to follow her movements.

She could tell her people were starting to wake up and move around. The morning meal was starting to be prepared.

Mira tried not to laugh as a few of the kids were trying to mimick their moves.
