Final plans

Mission: Thunderdome
Location: Paarth Elion Three
Timeline: Current

on:
{Outside the Grendaas stronghold}

Kevin squatted in front of the "sand table" map roughly depicting the walls and interior of the Grendaas stronghold. He hadn't built or used one of these since his academy days. The rest of the away team stood or sat around the map listening to him describe the features of the map.

"All evidence points to the scientists being held in this building here," he pointed to a large structure in the middle of the stronghold. "It is a fortified building that likely holds a garrison of elite troops and perhaps Grendaas himself."

"The walls are manned with guards every 100 meters or so with line of sight to the guards to the left and right. They may add additional guards at night but we will need to wait until after sundown to find out. A lack of additional facilities between gaurds suggests not but I can't yet rule out a roving guard. Guards are rotated every two hours during the day from four platoon huts, here, here, here and here," He indicated points ninety degrees from each other around the interior of the wall.

"We will need to rely on stealth to make our entry and find the scientists," Kevin explained, "so no phasers, firearms, or battle cries. If we lose the element of surprise, we will likely fail to recover the scientists."

Kevin let this sink in a moment, then continued, "Moonlight will make our approach difficult. We will wait until the main moon is three hours from setting when I expect that the guards will be sleepy and less alert. We will also try to time our attack between guard rotations to give us as much time as possible before our activities are discovered. As me and Captain Rodale are the best climbers, we will approach and scale the main gate to subdue the guards there. Then we will open the gate for the rest of the assault force.

"After entering the stronghold, we will split into four teams. I will lead Kronnelti and K'ner into the fortified building to find the scientists. The Captain and Rogar will provide support from outside the building to cover our entry and prevent reinforcement by the enemy. Walker and Thorne will secure vehicles from the motor pool and the gate that we will use as our escape. T'Parlik and Lockhart will cover our entry at the main gate then circle around to cover our egress from the motor pool." Kevin wasn't happy about leaving Rogar with Mira but he needed someone more reliable than the just counsellor covering their entry and exit.

"Once we have the scientists, I expect that the situation will become kinetic," Kevin began his conclusion, "Once you hear gunfire, you can assume that our cover is blown and we are heading for the exits."

He looked at the away team to assess their moods, "Any questions so far?"

Mira watched her people then her eyes went to the map again. it was the best knowledge she was going to get of the layout. She didn't like not seeing it before hand but this would have to do.

Walker and Thorne exchanged glances, but said nothing. The plan from his perspective was clear, but as the old saying went, plans rarely survived contact. As the rest of the team were asking questions, Trace's mind wandered to Geneva. She had displayed concern when other females showed an interest in him, and it hadn't gone unnoticed. Again, he didn't know what to make of their bond, but romance, at least for him, was off the table for now. He hadn't yet healed from the death of Evelyn, and he was sure he didn't want to expose someone like Thorne to his baggage. Perhaps it was something he would need to discuss with the counselor at some point, though he didn't relish the thought. Counseling was for the weak.

Kronnelti looking at the map, "it looks like there are weak points here and here," pointing in two areas in the back.

"I can handle those," he said, "I got several grenades left."

"We can use those as alternate egress points," Kevin agreed, "but you need to hold on to those grenades for when we go kinetic. They might be the only thing that will offset superior numbers when we are being chased. Our primary exit point is the motor pool gate that Lieutenant Walker will secure."

"Just remembered I want everyone coming back safely. No heroics, We have one chance to save these misguided scientists. if we fail, it will be a while before Grendaas will let his guard down. Do what you have to in order to stay alive." Mira told them all.

She smiled at Kronnelti. "I know you want to blow stuff up. How about once we get back on the ship, we find some asteroids for you?"

These aren't for blowing stuff up he said, these emulate a very bright light. These are for buying the entry team time to get to the scientist.

I will be going into one of those weak points, once shit hits the fan I will be diverting them with these. Don't worry I won't be doing anything heroic.

Kevin looked at the Chief of Security. Kevin had assigned him to the assault element he was leading to breech the fortified building and recover the scientists, arguably the most dangerous part of the plan. Was the Klingon's devotion to his wife and unborn child so great that he would ignore Kevin's instructions? "I wanted you with me," Kevin explained, "but a diversion might help us to escape."

Kronnelti sat down closed his eyes and started breathing slowly. No heroics? he said, both Kevin and Mira nodded alright he said let's do this.

He handed Kevin and Mira a grenade, remember these emulate bright light with the explosion from the grenade.

He got up and gave Kevin a warriors hand shake, see you on the inside and we are going home with everyone. He said

Mira shook her head "you might need them . If I am needed I'll be taking them out so they don't follow us. Hopefully they will not even know we have been here."

"Only question is how do we let Kronnelti know that we have the scientists?" Kevin wondered.

Mira thought about it. "Vaytoc? He can send a message. We will not be that far away."

"Who do I defer to, other than the both of you," K'ner asked Kevin. "If we're stopped along the way that is. I probably won't even need to speak, but I'll need to affect a submissive body posture, and maybe lean closer to one of you if I feel threatened."

"The time for play acting is over," Kevin stated definitely, "As early in the morning that we are attacking, I expect all decent people to be asleep. You run into anyone, take them down. But quietly."

Let's all return safely said Kronnelti, and everyone take a phaser as he puts them all on a table.

There's your normal hand phaser, a shotgun and rifle phaser. Then he puts the mace down, there's only this.

When you do take a phaser place your thumb on the scanner as that will be yours.
