Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Trace comes off as a tougher than nails, seen it all kind of fellow. He sees himself as something in between a cowboy and an adventurer, akin to Indiana Jones of 21st century fame. His early education, before joining Starfleet was in the humanities, specifically in cultural anthropology and archaeology, and in some ways he yearns to escape the order of Starfleet and explore the Galaxy. However, without independent wealth which would allow that, he sees Starfleet as the next best thing, allowing him to explore the far reaches of space on Starfleet's dime. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Trace can be over confident and brash, which can get him into hot water with his superiors. He also cultivates an early 21st century lexicon, which can confuse those not familiar with earth's history, and lead to communication problems at times. He is, however, quite accomplished as an anthropologist, having a better than average familiarity with alien culture and language. While his passion is with culture, language and exploration, he is an accomplished operations officer, and is quite capable of making the hard decisions when necessary. | |

| Personal History | Trace was an accomplished cultural anthropologist by training, and had visited and documented dozens of alien cultures as an independent academic working in partnership with Starfleet's Diplomatic Corps. At some point, he became interested in artifact collection and eventually earned a reputation as a treasure hunter. Though most of the treasures he collected were on behalf of alien governments for alien governments, he made the mistake of trusting a less than reputable government official, who intended to steal the artifact and sell it on the black market. Trace found the artifact, and was promptly accused of stealing it by the official. He was arrested, had his doctoral privileges revoked by Starfleet and took a severe hit to his reputation. He appealed on the grounds that he had acted in good faith, but the evidence was against him and the ruling stood. During this time he was married to Evelyn Williams, a fellow Archaeologist he had met in the field. Upon Evelyn's death, Trace fell to alcohol as a way to cope, before abandoning the bottle and joining Starfleet. He chose security because it seemed easier than any other area of specialization. Upon graduating from Starfleet Academy, Trace was promoted to Lt JG due to his familiarity with Starfleet operations, having been on Starships throughout his career. |
