Mission:
Hide and seek
Location: Roanoke
Timeline: Present
ON:
{ROANOKE}
They had made it to the top. Mira looked out the huge viewing window that covered half the bar. “Funny how they allotted so much room to their offices lab and recreation centers when they gave the crew closets to live in.”
Her gloved hands rest on the ledge of the window as she looked out. That storm was going to be here shortly. “We can’t afford to be here when that hits and I have a challenge to answer to.” She turned back to the crew. “We need to go.”
She nodded with a frown on her face. “We were told to bring supplies but there is no one. The Norris has circled the planet. They found nothing. Let’s go. We will send in our reports and let Star fleet send a science vessel. I am not endangering the lives of my crew on a hopeless search. Move out people.” Mira ordered.
They were halfway to the turbo lift when Mira turned to K’ner “is there any medical safety Protocols you want followed before we all leave the shuttle?"
K'ner nodded. "We'll be scanned on the way back, plus the screening once we disembark the shuttle in the bay. Then everyone can get out of those clunky suits." It was times like this the K'ner enjoyed having a bit of advanced release tech in their Hazard Team suits, but they had to be more readily worn and for longer periods usually.
Mira was looking forward to getting out-of these suits but not if it was going to bring anything back to the ship . Any other time the transporter took care of filtering out anything but they would be returning in the shuttle. She wondered if the new upgrade included ship sanitizing?
All their commbadges went off.
=/\= This is Montgomery. Captain that storm just picked up speed. =/\=
Mira started cursing in different languages “double time people”
"I'll go and prep the shuttle," Kevin answered before turning back to the vehicle bay.
“Wait there is only one turbo lift on this side and only one tram! We all go together.” Mira called after him only to slip on something on the floor. Before she could fall Awal was there scooping her up and kept going. Reaching the turbo lift he set her back on her feet . Looking up into his shield she could see a huge grin.
“You are going to tell Kolar aren’t you?” Mira asked.
“of course Venus and Kolar will think it was a funny story. “ Awal told her.
Mira chuckled fine just let them get back to the ship she thought. Getting to the ground floor level Mira frowned at the view outside the weather had turned bad.
Sliding into the tram's seat Mira buckled up and counted heads. They were all there. She took a deep breath and let it out. Kevin activated the tram and it took off at top speed.
Lights started blinking off and on. “power drain?” Mira whispered but because the comm link was open everyone heard her.
Then without warning all power cut off.
Mira froze in the darkness but both of the Haz Team started flicking on the suit lights.
“I am getting the shuttle ready” Kevin told her before running off.
He seemed to know his suit better then she had because his light was on and fading down the long tunnel as he ran to the shuttle. Someone ran after him, likely SSgt Deena since she was the other pilot.
Mira bit her lip as she looked down the long tunnel they had came from. They had probably made it 2/3 of the way before the power cut out.
K'ner confirmed the distance as she projected a map showing their location and the remaining route. "Easy run," she said, waving them forward and bringing up the rear.
Something just didn’t feel right as Mira jogged after her team. If that storm could take out the power of the buildings. Could it also take out the suit power? Then where would that leave them all?
They were almost to the vehicle bay when Kevin's voice came over the communicator. "Captain, the shuttle is a no-go," he reported solemnly.
"What?" Mira responded in surprise, "Why?"
"I am already experiencing power fluctuations," he answered, "There is no way that we are making it back to the ship."
"But the storm is intensifying," Mira replied, "If we don't leave, we'll be stuck here. Who knows what'll happen."
"If we try to fly in this storm with a compromised power system, we'll crash and end up stuck in the shuttle during the worst of the storm," he countered, "Best to ride it out in the base."
Mira considered the options. Kevin was right. Being stranded in the shuttle during the storm was not the best choice. "Change of plans, team," she announce with conviction, "We are going to hole up in the living quarters and ride out the storm."
The away team responded and Kevin announced that he was powering down the shuttle and would meet them in the living quarters.
