Mission:
The days of our lives
Location: Beta Antares
Timeline: Current
on:
{Beta Antares Repair Facility}
Kevin finished discussing the repairs with the base’s engineering crew. Mira had given the chief engineer a long list of modifications that would go a long way to improving the quality of life on the little warship. While he was happy for the opportunity to raise Kolar and Ashla in a more family-friendly environment, he was concerned about the sacrifices in combat effectiveness with the war between the Gorn and Klingon empires heating up. But with the larger Achilles-class war cruisers coming on-line, the Defiant-class ships would begin to be relegated to a support role although with Mira as Captain, the Chuck Norris would always be in the thick of things.
Trace Walker had volunteered to remain on Beta Antares to oversee the repairs and modifications to the Norris but Kevin suspected that a majority of his time would be devoted to the science officer that he had formed an attachment to. Not that Kevin had any room to criticize. His own relationship with Mira was rapidly progressing to the point that they would need to discuss what surname to use. He suspected that Mira would want a joining of their names but he hated fusions. Better for Mira to keep her own surname if she wanted.
Or maybe he should adopt Rodale as his own? Kevin Rodale. The name sounded foreign in his mind’s ear but better to perpetuate her parent’s name than his adopted name. Or that of his birth mother. And taking her name would further complicate the trail back to his original existence.
Kevin shook his head. It was a problem for another day. Right now, he had Shadow’s ominous warning of an upcoming mission hanging over him. He needed to get Mira and the children safely settled on Earth. Her uncle Thor was the logical choice. He would have the power and resources to ensure that his family came to no harm. Kevin was determined to encourage Mira to visit Thor on Earth as he entered their quarters aboard the Akira.
The quarters were empty which was strange. Mira might have taken Kolar to the holodeck without telling him but Ashla should have been here with Ensign Mariten. He tapped his comm badge.
“Kevin to Mira,” he announced.
The comm badge acknowledged the request but there was no answer. Maybe she was busy and couldn’t answer right away. He waited for half a minute then repeated his request.
Again there was no answer.
“Computer, where is Captain Rodale?” he asked.
“Captain Rodale is not aboard Beta Antares,” the female voice replied.
What the Void? Kevin thought. “When did she depart?”
“Captain Rodale’s presence on Beta Antares was last recorded at 1023 hours,” the computer answered dispassionately.
“Where did she go,” Kevin asked anxiously.
“Unknown,” the computer replied, “She departed using a non-Federation transporter.” Which meant that someone else had taken her away. Most likely unwillingly, else she would have told him. And asked him to come along.
“Where is Ensign Maritan?” Kevin asked urgently. She would know where the children were.
“Ensign Maritan embarked aboard the earth registered ship Holger Danske at 1015 hours,” was the response.
“Where are Kolar and Ashla Lance?”
“Kolar and Ashla Lance embarked aboard the earth registered ship Holger Danske with Ensign Maritan.”
“Hail the Holger Danske,” Kevin ordered.
“Unable to comply,” the computer countered, “The Holger Danske has departed the system and entered warp."
Kevin cursed. He would need to ask Captain Taylor to communicate with the departed ship.
{Bridge, USS Akira}
Fortunately, Captain Taylor was off-ship when Kevin stormed onto the bridge. The Betazoid executive officer, Akonil So, was on duty and could hardly fail to detect the anger and distress practically boiling over from Kevin. Contact with the Holger Danske was quickly established and Akonil So had offered use of the Captain’s Ready Room to give Kevin privacy.
Thor’s image appeared on the screen, which mollified Kevin slightly, still he demanded angrily, “Thor! What have you done with my children! Where is Mira!”
Thor was surprised to see an incoming message from Commander Kevin Lance. Maybe he would get some answers only to find out he was being blamed?
“What the hell do you mean? I was asked to take my niece, nephew and their blue skinned demon of a nanny into my care. I WASN’T even told that she had kids and who the kids father was. Then this little spitfire of a human with a Klingon baby all get beamed aboard my ship. I can’t even get ahold of Mira. BY ODIN'S BEARD! WHAT is going on and WHERE is Mira? How much danger is she in?"
Kevin's anger clouded his perception but he finally worked out that the human spitfire was Awal's wife, Dianna, and the blue-skinned demon was Ensign Mariten. "Mira has disappeared," He shouted back, "probably taken. But she would be more concerned for the welfare of our children. Now where are THEY!"
Thor set back in his chair With a frown. His eyes darted to the side of the bridge. “Kolar? Your….father would like to talk to you?”
There was a happy little squealed and his son's face came into view “Dada why you not here. We woke up with the boxes and Zimia is not happy. She say, Mama had a special dinner planned and we was all going to play in the holodeck. So I could be captain. But uncle Thor was told to take us to earth.” Kolar folded his arms and stuck his lip out. “Now you not here and mama not here and we on Uncle Thor’s ship.”
Thor nodded yeah the little boy covered about everything “I thought the message odd and when I tried to contact her the location wasn’t of any known location.” Thor added.
Kevin's anger was appeased slightly by seeing and hearing Kolar. "I'm sorry, cub," he told the boy gently, "Mama had to go away for a bit and we wanted you to go with Aunt Zimia and Uncle Thor. They will keep you safe until me and mama can meet you on Earth. Be a good boy and look after your sister. Can you do that for me?"
Kolar was uncertain but he nodded vigorously. "Off you go, now," Kevin smiled, "I need to talk to Uncle Thor for a moment." Kolar disappeared from the screen.
Kevin's smile dropped as he addressed Thor, "I need to find out what has happened to Mira. All I know right now is that she was taken from the station and I suspect that she did not go voluntarily." Already his investigator's mind was ordering the tasks that he needed to perform to find where she had been taken.
Thor nodded, “She wouldn’t have left. Not without telling you. That Zimia told me was that the two of you have made promises. Even if there was danger Mira would have told you and she would have brought the kids to me. Not have them all transported unconscious to my cargo bay without even telling me they were there.” He frowned “I know she is having trouble with the Orions but…” His fingers stroked his beard as he thought. “they would have taken the women and kids. Is anyone else missing? I know she promised she would have security. What happened to them?”
"I haven't had time to look into that," Kevin replied peevishly, "I only just discovered that Mira was missing and my first responsibility was to the children."
Thor gave a grunging nod. "You'll be going after her now," he said.
Kevin returned to older man's nod and said he would before adding, "You once warned me that you would break my neck if I broke Mira’s heart. Know that I will do much worse to you should my children come to any harm. Lance out." He terminated the connection.
