The start of a new trip

Posted on Fri Nov 15th, 2024 @ 10:23pm by Captain Mira Rodale & Commander Kevin Lance & Lieutenant Commander Awal Kronnelti & Lieutenant Tracey Walker Jr & Lieutenant Betaras K'ner

Mission: Starbase 364
Location: USS Chuck Norris
Timeline: Present

on:

{USS Chuck Norris, mess hall}

Getting an egg, bacon, and cheese bagel with a cup of earl gray tea, Mira sat in the corner. After seeing everything they had gone through, it was a blessing. Most of them didn't remember everything. The children, it would seem, didn't have their memories tampered with. Now, some of the things her son had asked about were making sense. Perhaps she should set up some appointments with the counselor? She frowned and hadn't even noticed she had eaten her sandwich. Finishing her tea, she left.

{USS Chuck Norris, Family quarters}

"We going bye byes again, Mama?" Kolar asked her.

Mira nodded. "We are going to another base to get the ship fixed. Mama needs a nap. Come hug me."

Mira smiled at his little giggle.

Zimia nodded. "Perfect timing, Ashla is asleep, too."

"Oh good. OK, Nap time." Mira led Kolar into his room, and they settled on the bed. Vaytoc came slinking in the room, crawling up on the bed. She shouldn't help but grin at the purrs coming from Vaytoc. Within a few minutes, they were sound asleep.

{USS Chuck Norris corridor}

Zimia smiled at seeing Dianna. "She looks better than I thought she would. I was horrified when I saw her medical."

"Since you're here, what's she doing?"

"Nap time." Zimia laughed.
"Kolar fights sleep unless his mom lays down with him. Then he goes right to sleep. Mira used to just get up and start working again, but now she sleeps, too."

{USS Chuck Norris, Family quarters}

Mira felt re-energize and was feeding Ashla a bottle. When she got the message, she was needed on the bridge, so she walked across the hall to see what was going on.

Kolar was still asleep, so she left him with Vaytoc.

{USS Chuck Norris, Bridge.}

Mira felt more than saw the figure that stepped closer as she entered the bridge. She grabbed the wrist as it extended towards her but stopped herself before twisting it as her senses caught up with her instincts.

"Captain."

"Doctor."

"I knew I would likely find you here, rather than anywhere near sickbay." K'ner flicked on the scanner in her hand as Mira released her grip. "Your reflexes are getting better. You could almost stop me from stabbing you."

"I would have been faster, but " Mira motioned to her sleeping baby in her arm." Then Mira smiled. "I completed my visits with Skalvunn. He was very helpful. Thank you for recommending him."

K'ner nods. "He's top tier. And knows how to hold a confidence," she said quietly. The scan pipped twice and seemed to get a positive nod from her at the result.

"Ya know, not everyone rates a house-call. You must have good connections." She smiled one of her rare ones. "And you can multi-task while I update your records." Her fingers twitched almost absently while she looked at the child in the Captain's arms, then glanced back at Mira. "Oh, and my compliments, I didn't see you running the gym or climbing the wall this morning. Let's see how long you can keep that up, yes?"

Mira smirked. "You told me light duty and not even to pick up Kolar. Just ignore that whole incident in the gym at the base. I had only planned on doing some isometrics and calisthenics, but" she gave a little shrug. That wasn't what had happened. "She is doing much better on the new formula."

K'ner nodded again, her jaw stiff, "I'm sorry I didn't get to you faster," she said quietly but still watching the wee one again and gave her own subtle shrug. "But this.. this you can lift. As if you would refrain..." She chuckled, then sobered. "But I do need to see her by the time we reach the ship yards. I assume you have something planned away from this anchor around your neck. You're overdue for some family time I wager?"

"Maybe, we aren't sure yet." Mira told her honestly.

Kevin entered the bridge carrying two mugs of steaming liquid. He handed one to Mira who took a grateful sip from the Rakajino, "I thought that you would be off shift," she said. Then man had been working so hard since they had been back doing his duties and most of hers as well.

"With the loss of Bryne, we are short a flight control officer," he explained, "I am covering down."

"I am disappointed that our missing crew wasn't replaced before leaving Starbase 364," Mira complained. they were a little short-handed right now with missing crew and the ones that transferred.

"The trip to Beta Antares is a milk run," Kevin replied philosophically, "We won't need a full crew complement until our retrofit is complete.

Mira nodded it should be.

[Engineering]

Trace finished up the last of his system checks. While he hadn't quite tracked down the energy drain, he didn't think it was important enough to hold off departure. It accounted for around a ten percent overall reduction, and a margin of error like that was only relevant in combat and sustained warp. In theory, neither of those things would be necessary between the starbase and their destination.

He hit the channel to open communication to the bridge.

"Engineering to Bridge..." he said, and then audibly yelped at a sharp pain in his butt cheek. It was followed by a pair of arms circling around him from behind and the sensation of warm breath on his earlobe.

"Go on..." Geneva whispered in his ear, as sultry as possible, "Don't let me interrupt you."

"Uh...Trace said, trying to keep his mind on task. "We're r..." he stammered as Geneva bit his ear "Ready to depart, Walker out."

[Bridge]

Kevin arched an eyebrow as the channel cut. "What's with him?" He asked to no one in particular.

Mira chuckled.

K'ner made a note to put the head of engineering in for a health review before they reached the shipyards and he slipped off. With a nod to the Captain she exited the bridge, headed back to the team barracks.

"Alright. Unlatch docking protocols Ensign, then set heading to Beta Antares. Best speed."

Ashla sensed she was missing something her eyes opened wide looking around, then she made a cute little happy noise at seeing her daddy. Mira smirked "oh she is so a daddy's girl."

After hearing that Awal couldn't help but laugh then clears his throat.

Mira gave a playful roll of her eyes as she put her mug down.

"See, this is why I didn't think having a girl was a good idea. Just wait until she starts dating." Mira slipped Ashla into Kevin's arm with a grin. "You know the two of you are going to have the same problem." Mira reminded Awal.

She looked at Awal then at Kevin. "Perhaps you two should come up with a good plan for that time. Hiding bodies is a hard job," she teased them.

It was what her father always had told her. With both hands free, she picked up her Raktajino. Taking a sip. Raktajino was one of the things she had been without for all most a year.

"I think I know how Rasha was killed." She nodded." A bubble of air. It would travel in the blood until it reached the heart. I remember one of my friends used to say that to me. It would only take one bubble of air to end a monster."

Awol frowned. "What evidence do you have?"

Mira shrugged, taking the baby back from Kevin. "None really, but a friend always said that would work."
She kissed her little girls cheek. " ok, let's check on your brother. He should be awake by now. Then I get to have food too." Kissing Kevin on the cheek, she left the bridge.
