Search and Rescue

Mission: Flux
Location: USS Chuck Norris
Timeline: Current

on:
{Executive Officer’s quarters, Deck 1}

The incessant chirping of his comm badge woke Kevin from his slumber. He looked at the ship chronometer. It had been barely an hour since he had gone to sleep. He reached for the comm badge as he turned on the light in his quarter. “This is Lance,” he said.

He heard the voice of Lieutenant Commander Montgomery =/\= “I am sorry to disturb you Commander but Mister Chin has found something that he thinks indicates that the Captain is already in this time stream.” =/\=

Kevin was immediately awake. “I’m on my way,” he replied.

{Bridge, Deck 1}

As Kevin entered the bridge, Montgomery handed him a mug of steaming black liquid. “Coffee, Kona Blend, black,” he told the executive officer, “Just like you like it.”

“Thank you,” Kevin said before taking a sip. Montgomery was continuing to climb in his estimation. “Let’s see what Mister Chin has for us.”

The two officers approached the communications officer who began without preamble, “I have been working on translating and analyzing the communications traffic for any sign of the Captain or Lieutenant Kronnelti. While I haven’t found anything specifically naming either, there have been a few references to ‘visitors’.”

“Working with the tactical officer,” Chin nodded towards the officer at the tactical console, “we have triangulated the messages. The greatest concentrations of references to the visitors are here and here.” He pointed to two places on the map of the population center.

Kevin looked at the map. “Hard to tell what those buildings are,” he said.

Chin smiled, “Analysis of communications can help there too. The majority of electronic emissions are being generated from this location. And most of the language is directive in nature.”

“We think that it is a government or command center of some type,” Montgomery interjected.

“Based on the communication that we have been able to translate,” Chin continued, “the other building is related to military or law enforcement.”

Kevin raised a hand. “You’ve convinced me, Mister Chin. Alert Lieutenant K’ner and the Haz team to prepare for conduct a search and rescue.”

{ Transporter room, USS Chuck Norris }

The transporter chief watched the 10 bodies that had crowded into the room, all standing around quietly as if they were listening to music on their earbuds.

K'ner displayed the general map on their HUDs, giving the overall landmarks and cities for reference if needed later, then panned down in scale to one city in particular, building level.

"A lot of comm traffic here. This one seems to be the directive location where the decisions are made, orders sent out. Not likely a place of incarceration, assuming they're holding our targets and that's why they can't respond."

She pans out, slides over, then zooms slowly in to another location, then back outwards a bit.

"This is a secondary location that also seems very interactive about visitors they've encountered very recently. It's the consensus that we overshot our time slip just a bit after their arrival instead of arriving earlier. Might not be them, but in the absence of other evidence, we're going full on like it is."

Deena whistled. "That building is HUGE Chief. That'll take some time to work."

K'ner nodded and continued. "It will, but I'm hoping our scanners at the local level will be more discerning for a Trill and a Klingon, and help narrow down where our packages are for recovery.

"Lt Tela will take Charlie in here." K'ner inserts a dot where they will transport in. "You will secure our nearest exit on the roof as we move through so we're clear to be transported back here if there's any interference from inside." Several roof access points blinked on their maps.

"I'll take Bravo in here." K'ner popped another dot. "It seems to be open and not used in the time we've been observing. Peke & Chbet will attempt to inject into their communications network and get us a peek as the rest of us work the scanners. Once we get a location we transition from recon to acquisition mode."

K'ner pauses, looking around at the small team. "This is still, technically, a First Contact situation, or what's left of it. Our interactions should be minimal, as well as our impacts on the community at large. Non-lethal whenever possible. Maybe we can leave a good impression in the end. But regardless, we will be leaving, and with our missing crewmates as well! "

K'ner wrapped up the briefing and Charlie stepped onto transporter pads. "I just hope the Captain and Kronnelti are still there."

Nod laughs. "Yeah, the Captain isn't one to wait to be rescued!"

After they disappeared the transporter chief waved Bravo onto the pads. With a nod K'ner felt the surreal shift from here to there. Materializing, they immediately squatted, then slipped to points of cover and started their tasks. K'ner noted all the dancing dots on her master HUD, acknowledging arrival with Tela.

{In the city, that time forgot}

Two guards were walking. "I can't believe we lost them." the younger guard spoke

"Clearly, they are more clever than we gave them credit for. They used the rooftops to travel. Who does that?" the older guard answered.

The younger guard shook his head. "They went over the wall. It's dangerous out there. We aren't going to have to look out there, are we?" he asked, worried.

"No, there not be alive much longer. no one can survive out there. And there without the water to keep them alive."

(Woods)

Kronnelti and Mira had been in their camp cooking their first kill while relaxing next to a tree.

Finishing up his last piece, that actually wasn't bad despite no seasonings he said.

He holds his comm badge, do you think Kevin can find us and bring us back he asked Mira?

"Pardon the pun, but not in a million years. I don't think anyone could. it's vast amount of time to cover, " Mira told him.

"If Kevin was lost here or anyone of the crew, what would you be doing?" Kronnelti asked.

"I wouldn't stop...." Mira bit her lip. "but we both know how stubborn I can be. It might take some time, but maybe Walker can figure out how to work the equipment and then bring the city back."

Kronnelti nodded. "But we aren't in the city."

Mira frowned, "but we aren't in a cage anymore too."

{ City Enforcement Division, Detainment & Logistics }

Bravo worked along a path selected by Peke after Chbet worked out a location for the foreign visitors. K'ner saw a flash on her HUD and stopped the squad. She looked over at Peke, even though he wasn't speaking aloud.

"You called it. The net is suddenly fired up back and forth. Their guests have left the building." Peke held the amusement from his voice with great effort.

K'ner exhaled. "We called it. They didn't stay put for long. Now we just gotta find 'em. Tela, observation mode, Peke, quickest way up and out."

Chbet relayed occasional updates from their comm intercepts as they quietly worked their way up, having to halt and hide twice to avoid the locals. K'ner felt slightly better once they'd cleared the roof access and secured it from anyone following from below.

"Charlie, report." K'ner reaches an edge and surveys the rooftops and the city walls.

Taz's formal cadence comes across the team freq. "Sounds like they've made it across to an exterior boundary and into the wilds outside the city proper. The locals seem to be somewhat resistant to going after them due to a high level of risk from the resident fauna."

"Lions and tigers and tarqil bears, oh my." Came from Kotsoo.

K'ner looked around, the team not readily apparent but she knew what to look for in the concealment function of their suits. She pushed out the HUD map to the others again.

"The nearest point of egress would be here, or here," she said, corresponding dots popping up. They're not too far apart, so either would work for our cause. Once we're free of the structures, our tracking will be the same in either case. Charlie, make for point Uno, Bravo will go over at Dos and we start tracking from that point. Whoever picks them up first continues as the other team falls in to come in on a flanking side... just in case."

K'ner pauses for any input from the team. Hearing none they make use of the suit's enhancements to their skills to clear bounding jumps as they move across the corner of the city, heading for the outside quadrant. By the time anyone thinks they hear anything, they'll already be gone, stories to tell their neighbors and children.

Not long after dropping off the wall, Bravo finds tracks on the ground, the sizes and tread leading them to strongly believe their quarry is ahead.

"Bravo will go visible, Charlie, stay camo and come around on our flank. Let's move kiddos, we have a starship to catch and I'm already tired of this place."

(Camp)

Kronnelti is laying up against the same tree Mira.

Coughing with a little blood and heavily breathing, he pulls out his binoculars.

Mira am I seeing things or are those starfleet officers as he hands them to her.

Look over at the wall, their quite a distance and I doubt their hear us.

Help me, he rips down the roof and starts creating smoke signals.

Mira felt weak she was going to have to take some of that water.

Taz was the first to call up. "I see a vaporous mass arising... here." Their HUDs updated with the approximate location she had tagged. This increased their movement, even knowing it could be a trap, but confident Charlie could pull them out of it if so.

K'ner rolled up first as the others spread out. A collection of branches and foliage from what looked like a makeshift encampment, splayed across what was probably a campfire. She waved Deena over to the Security Chief while she knelt next to their Captain."

She cancelled the opaqueness of her helmet's face shield as she approached, pretty much ready for a flurry of kicks and punches if she wasn't recognized. "Captain my captain. You have a madman who brought an entire ship over a million years to get you. So romantic..."

Mira smiled "He is amazing. It's good to see you doc." She handed her a jug of water. ,"This has an antidote in it but it makes the user forget everything. The memories come back but you have to drink again. We also ate meat." She pointed to what was left of the food.

K'ner assesses Mira while Deena works to stabilize the Klingon. "Hey Chief Kronnelti. I guess congratulations are in order. There's someone who wants to meet you. Let's get you up so we can get to that eh?"

K'ner looks at Mira as she satisfies herself of the Captain's condition. The Haz Team Leader keys her boosted comm badge. "Commander Lance. There's someone that wishes to speak with you if you would be so kind as to request our transport directly to sick bay and meet us please."

Lt Betaras didn't want to worry him overmuch, not giving him an immediate update, but she was requesting transport straight to medical. . . She hoped it was in her positive vibe voice since doing more time in the sickbay.
