The call had gone out that everyone was to report in. Reading the reports on the ruins that had been found had been interesting. Mira wanted to get her hands on the images they had taken and start a deeper translation, but ........ She gave a little sigh. She was Captain now and needed to learn to delegate and oversee. Not do everything herself. That’s what she had been told, at least.
She was more of a hands-on type of captain. Not the I hide in the ready room until needed.
She smiled up at her first officer, "Has everyone reported in?"
Kevin nodded. "All accounted for, Captain."
Mira nodded. "Then take us out. We are going three days into the Expanse, then loop around and come back. Should be an easy trip." Mira sipped her Raktajino.
Kronnelti turned from the tactical station. "Are we looking for anything in particular?"
Mira shrugged. "Not that I was told. A few freighter ships have gone missing. Keep an eye open for anything." She smiled.
Mira stood, then nodded to Kevin. "You have command." she whispered as she walked by him. "Try not to get us lost," she teased
Kevin chuckled as he sat.
{Mess Hall}
They had traveled at least most of the day into the Shackleton Expanse, when Mira’s commbadge went off =/\= Captain Please come to the bridge.=/\=
Mira tapped her commbadge "on my way."
{Bridge}
"Captain on the bridge," the tech monitoring the engineering console announced as Mira entered.
The science officer was shaking her head no. "No, Sir. I ran the maps on what we have for the Romulans, Klingons, and the Federation. This civilization isn't on any of them."
Mira walked over to look at the reading, "Class M and looks to be fully populated. how far along are they in their development?"
"Based on passive sensor analysis," Kevin replied, "mid to late twenty-second century Earth. They have some sophisticated satellites in orbit but there is little indication that they have explored beyond their own orbit. Mister Chin, have you been able to discern anything from their communications?"
The communications officer turn to address Mira, "Yes Captain, Commander. The language is simple enough that the translator has already constructed most of the grammar and is rapidly building a lexicon. It appears that they are a single race species that has loosely united under a planetary government. Local area have a high degree of autonomy but the appear to work together rather than in opposition."
Kevin looked to Mira with raised eyebrows. "Looks like they are ripe for first contact," he said.
Mira nodded "Ok get an away team together. "any chance we can see what they look like so we don't freak them out?"
Kevin turned back towards the main viewscreen. "Helm," he ordered, "begin taking us to a high planetary orbit at one-quarter impulse. Lieutenant Kronnelti, slowly reduce our electronic counter measures to zero. I don't want to surprise them by suddenly popping up on their monitoring systems. Also charge deflectors and keep shields at the ready but don't charge weapon systems."
He turned to the communications console as he continued, "Mister Chin, start broadcasting first contact greeting on their major government communication frequencies."
Aye ma'am counter measures are down to zero
"Captain, it's all gone." the science officer said, shocked.
Mira turned around to look at her. "What do you mean gone?" Walking back to the station, Mira looked at the readings. There was nothing, no cities, no people, and no wild life. Other than that, it seemed just as it was. "Cloking device of some kind?" Mira rubbed her forehead "Well we still need to find out what happened. Better see if Walker can join us. "
