Closing on Avenger

Having received notification from Lieutenant Rodriguez about the distress call from Delta-01, Kevin altered the Norris’ course to intercept with the shuttle’s last reported location. He was concerned about the Cardassians, that the sudden correction to take them back in the direction that they had come would jeopardize the fiction of their mapping the nebula but he couldn't worry about that now. He rechecked the navigational chronometer. Twenty minutes to intercept.

As expected, the Cardassians had turned to follow the Norris and must have been wondering what was going on.

“Messaging coming through from Lieutenant Kronnelti. Voice only,” the communication tech announced.

“Put it on speaker,” Kevin ordered.

=/\= “Help! Commander Rodale has 2nd degree burns. Medical equipment out of date. She needs medical attention stat!!!” =/\=

That tears it, Kevin through as he accelerated to full impulse. The navigational chronometer adjusted to accommodate the ship’s new velocity. Time to intercept dropped to less than five minutes

He tapped the communicator on his console. “Bridge, to Medical,” he announced, “Prepare to beam a trauma team to Avenger. At least one casualty with second-degree burns.”

The channel being used to coordinate the shuttle’s activity was alive with questions and exclamations or surprise. “Clear the net,” Kevin ordered, “All craft suspend search operations and return to Norris immediately.” At full impulse, there was little chance of the shuttles catching up to Norris before she arrived at the coordinates sent by Delta-01.

“The Cardassians are hailing us,” the communication tech announced.

“Ignore them,” Kevin ordered. He has no time to deceive the Cardassians as to their true purpose in the nebula.

“We are coming into sensor range of Delta-01,” the duty tactical officer called out. Unnecessarily, as Kevin had his eyes fixed on the tactical display at the Flight console, impatiently waiting for the sensor contacts for Delta-01 and the Avenger to appear.
