Paxton sat alone in the big room. Being a Defiant-class vessel, the room was as big as you could probably find on a vessel of this size. Spacious, but not strictly big truth be told.

He thought back a few days to when he was approached for this latest assignment. For the last three years he’d been stationed at Starfleet Command, teaching the next generation of Captains how to command. The command course was tough to teach as a lot of it depended on the student’s ability and capability to lead, but Paxton had thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to make a difference.

Prior to that he’d been in command of the USS Passaro, a Galaxy-class explorer, for eight years. And now he suddenly found himself on this little ship that hadn’t even been out amongst the stars for over two years. He sighed loudly, rubbing his eyes as he leaned back in his chair. There must have been a reason why Starfleet chose him for this task, but he just couldn’t see it for himself yet.

The door chime suddenly snapped him back into the room. He sat forward, straightened his tunic and cleared his throat. “Come in!” He announced with authority.

We’ll wait a day or two to see who else is coming to play, and I’ll get us going on our first mission by the weekend. Let’s have some fun!
