Mission: The days of our lives
Location: USS Chuck Norris
Timeline: Present

On:
{USS Chuck Norris, XO office}

Keying for entry, Montgomery waited to hear “ enter”.

Montgomery walked in. “Sir? Can I run some problems by you?”

Kevin nodded, waving to the other seat in the room. Montgomery sat, feeling a little unsure on how to proceed. “I’ll Start at the beginning. The holo rooms are awesome. Maybe a little too awesome.” He gave a little chuckle. “Hopefully, the newness will pass soon. I have assigned everyone their time. Even the kids.” He lifted the PADD in his hand. “Captain wants the holobay open as a gym. The kids have the Holo room for School and play time. Then, at night, the holoroom is for movie night and date nights and the holobay for group things.”

Kevin nodded, sounded like a good plan. But he was thinking there must be a “but” in all this.

“I thought everything was all good until I found out that someone started a poker game with time in the holos as the winnings.” He cleared his throat. “Can you guess the person who is racking up the holo times?”

“Rodriguez?” Kevin said.

Montgomery nodded. “Sir, how are things going with you and your wife.”

Kevin raised an eyebrow at him referring to Mira as his wife and not the captain. “Everything is wonderful. “

Montgomery nodded, looking around the new office the had been the Captain office. Mira had told him she preferred using the home office to be closer to the kids and Zimia would take them out until nap time. So he knew Kevin was going to get an office. “And your feeling better from your honeymoon?”

Kevin frowned, wondering what this was all about.

Montgomery rubbed the back of his neck. “Sir, I am not sure how this all happened, but there is a rumor that the captain put you in sickbay. Few comments about her last husband being Klingon and…..” He trailed off. “Mira heard them and got embarrassed. Again, Rodriguez. When I confronted him. He just laughed and said he was playing. Just teasing her. She is such a little thing, she couldn’t have put you in medical. Unless Kevin is really out of shape.” Montgomery was frowning “I want to pull his holobay privileges for a month. But since you are back, discipline is your department.”

Kevin nodded. Rodriguez was a constant pain and Kevin wished that he had been among the mass transfers approved after the crew escaped the Nexus. The executive officer wasn’t concerned about any rumor regarding himself. The medical record showed his collapse was caused by a combination of sleep deprivation, malnutrition and dehydration as a result of being awake for more than seventy-two straight hours. No mention of the Andorian stimulant, however, made it into the report.

Still, Rodriguez had compromised the Captain’s authority and showed reckless disregard in doing so. His behavior mocked the Captain in a manner detrimental to the maintenance of discipline and good conduct aboard the ship. Discipline had to be maintained lest others start to think Mira incapable of commander and question her orders.

And the Ensign had embarrassed his wife.

“I doubt that restriction will be sufficient to deter Mister Rodriguez,” Kevin concluded, “but neither myself nor the Captain have the authority to demote him to the enlisted ranks.” That would require an Admiralty Courts Martial. “A month of additional duty in addition to the restriction will bring the point home, I believe.” He momentary toyed with the idea of adding three days on rations of bread and water, an anachronistic holdover from the age of sail, but he needed to keep something else in his arsenal should Rodriguez persist.

“As to his side gag,” Kevin continued, “Transfers of holo time will require approval of myself or the Captain, retroactively to the beginning of this trip. That should put pay to the Ensign’s little racket.”

Montgomery did his best to hide his smirk as he looked down at the PADD. “Last thing. How hard did the captain fall off that horse and did she hit her head? I am only asking because she has reported the same equipment in 5 different places on the ship. And that Particular piece of equipment is not where it should be. I only have a record of it coming aboard as a wedding gift for the two of you.”

“What piece of equipment?” Kevin asked. Montgomery handed his PADD to Kevin. “I saw this in the cargo bay before my….episode. A dual-axis something-or-other. I think I saw it in the medical bay before passing out but I was pretty delirious so…” He shrugged and handed the PADD back. “Maybe finding that thing could be part of Mister Rodriguez’s penance.”

{Captain’s family quarters}

Mira waved her hand over the desk console to activate it. The Seemingly normal desktop came alive with holo systems images. She chuckled. “So, this is how other Captain’s get there information.”

The ship went from Its military grade style design to a standard star fleet vessel, only far smaller then her big “brother” ships. She smirked at the message she received from the Engineering team that refitted the ship. It would seem the other Defiant Class Captain’s were now Complaining that their ships should be refitted as well. She had sent him her congratulations on a wonderful job on the ship. She then added she hadn’t showed the new ship off to anyone, so wasn’t sure how all the requests came in. Feel free to use her designs, only omit the pink little girl room that had been only for Venus. She chuckled to herself, wondering the look on the man’s face after reading it. When she had showed him her plans he had thought her crazy for having that room on her list to begin with. She was messing with him of course and found it funny. Like any other Captain would ask for the pink room.

The door swished open and in ran Kolar. He jumped on her lap, very upset. Wrapping her arms around him she kissed the top of his head. “what happened?”

Kolar took so long to answer she had started to get up to find Zimia. They had gone to the mess hall just a little while ago.

“dada is my dada right mama?”

Mira raised an eyebrow at Zimia as she ran in with Ashla in her arms. “of course your dad is your dad and before you ask I am your mom. Now what happened?”

“I heard someone say that he wasn’t.”

Mira sighed. “You look like a mini daddy with my spots. How could you think who ever was telling you the truth. When you learn to read I’ll show you the DNA report that says I am your mom and Daddy is your dad.”

Zimia eyes was wide, still holding Ashla in her arms. “I sat him at the table and went to get his food. When I turned around he was running out the door.”

Mira frowned putting a finger under Kolar’s chin to get him to look up at her. “Didn’t we talk about you leaving Zimia? Not a good decision, Kolar. Who said he was your dada?”

“Rodriguez was telling someone that.” He gave a little hiccup.

“Oh really, and you believe someone who forgot to dress after his shower?” Mira brought up the only time Kolar had any real dealing with Rodriguez.

Kolar giggled.

Mira ran her fingers through his blonde curls like she was looking for something. “nope, don’t see any black hair or brown eyes and you have a brain. I would say Rodriguez is a fool and doesn’t know what he is talking about.”

Kolar nodded like that was true. He gave a little giggle then looked over at Zimia. “Sorry I ran away.”

She nodded. “Should we go back and eat our food this time?”

Mira smiled as they left. Once the doors were closed, she tapped her commbadge. She sent for one of their Klingon exchange officers. Since their assistant security had been called away on a family emergency, they had been assigned two Klingons. Both from House Rasmehlier. Lt Chek Thobol and his mate Udaj Thobol. They were both now on the Security team under Awol. She was sure Awal could handle them.

The door chirped. “Enter.”

Chek walked in and looked around. Probably thinking he had to remove someone from her quarters. “Captain?”

Mira stood tugging on her jacket “Chek, what would a Klingon Captain do if she found out one of her crew had a big mouth and was talking about her….family” she added.

“Was this talk of praise or has this petaQ darkened the name of Rasmehlier?” He asked her.

“I wouldn’t say darkened, more like rude comments one of which made my son cry. Chek I don’t like to see my son cry.” Mira told him.

“I will toss him out the airlock and change the boarding logs that this petaQ never return to the ship.” Chek told her like that was a normal thing to do.

“No tossing any crew out the air lock.” She chuckled, but that did sound nice right now. “I was thinking more on the line of teaching him a lesson. Rodriguez has too much time on his hands to run his mouth. Since we are a small ship everyone has to be trained in more than one field.”

Chek nodded, it was the same on any Klingon ship. “who is this person needing more training?”

“Ensign Rodriguez.”

Chek grinned. “His mouth runs a lot. I would think he would benefit from some fighting skills. Just to keep him safe from his own mouth.”

Mira laughed, “no broken bones. Thank you for taking on this new responsibility.”

“thank you, lady Rasmehlier. I was thinking this deployment would be dull.” Chek nodded.

Mira returned to her seat. “It’s never boring here. You will also need to see when Kevin would like his training session to get ready for his fight.”

“Aye, Captain.” He turned to leave.

{ Medbay }

Billingsly crossed her arms and leaned back to look through the CMO’s door. “He’s back.”

“Again?”

K’ner sighed and got up to look around the door frame and into the treatment area. An Ensign had just been assisted onto the bed and definitely looked worse for the wear. As she approached, K’ner heard the litany of ailments for this visit.

“…corneal abrasion, traumatic arthrotomy… looks like you tore a ligament this time Ensign.” Rodriquez’s sharp shriek was clipped as the PA examined the wound, then cleaned, closed and applied the dermal sealer.

“How about some pain reliever doc?” Rodriguez asked K’ner as she stepped near. “AHHHH!” he grunted again.

“Perhaps… after the exam.” She backed up and turned to Billingsly with quiet directions.

“Full bone scan. Check for micro-fractures. I’m sure the instructions were probably no broken bones, but I’ve heard the new Klingon is rather exact in his interpretations of his directions while training. Get some fluids in him and knock him out for a couple of hours while everything is working. Leave the paralytic active for a few minutes after he wakes, maybe if he thinks he’s got some nerve damage he’ll wise up.”

“OWIE!!! That hurts!” Even the other patient currently a couple of beds down rolled his eyes.

K’ner glanced back, then shrugged, “And then again, maybe not, he’s not the smartest nut in the bowl.”

K’ner returned to her spartan office to send off an update to the Captain and XO on Rodriquez’s training progress, CC’ing the Chief of Security for good measure.

“HEY! That stings! I’m going tooooooo…” A soft thump followed…

{Bridge}

Awal had left his room while Dianna was getting Venus ready. He went straight to the bridge to check out the new security panel.

Kronnelti runs his hand over the panel as it came to life. Awal was amazed to see the status of the Chuck Norris along with the ships weaponry.

Awal picks up his padd and sends a Holo message to Mira “come to the bridge, you might want to get a good look at the updates”

{Captain’s family quarters}

Mira had just read the last report then two new ones came in. She gave a little moan. One was from K’ner. Ah so Rodriguez had made it into sickbay. Well she had wanted his training to be firm but not damaging. In her own Klingon training it had not been easy and she had a few broken bones to show for it. Perhaps she should talk to Kevin about it.

Sending a message back to K’ner and told her as medical chief to please use her professional opinion on Rodriguez training class.

That would get a second set of eyes on Rodriguez. Mira still couldn’t believe Rodriguez had just ship his daughter off to go live with an aunt on the mother’s side of the family. “Got to wonder how many children he has abandoned.” Tapping the next button she grinned. Seemed Awol liked his new toys.

Standing up she picked up her mug and walked out of her quarters only to almost trip on the same darn piece of equipment. “Son of a targ!”

Mira narrowed her eyes “By all that is holy. HOW many times do I have to order this piece of equipment put away?”

One of the Ensign looked back at her. They both watch as a cup of Raktajino appeared on the equipment.

Mira blinked “you saw that right. THAT ….. that coffee hadn’t been there right?” with her words of coffee. The Raktajino mug turned into a standard cup of coffee. “what’s going on?”

{ Cargo Bay – Training Configuration }

K’ner shook her head as Rodriguez passed out. Chek stalked off cursing quietly for a change, apparently no longer enjoying combat training for today.

Billingsly waited just a bit longer, just to be sure, before she released the lock and let Diego’s head bounce off the deck. Looking up she merely said, “You said no broken bones, and no more muscle damage.” She almost managed to avoid stepping on a couple of his fingers as she stepped away to stretch after the quick match.

K’ner was certainly glad Rodriguez wasn’t under her, she’d have transferred him out long ago. With all the intense, focused training he’d been involved in in the last few days, you’d think something would stick in his brain but when her newest Haz Team recruit could best him so easily, perhaps he should stick to a quieter career like sanitation control.

Reaching down, she turned his head to check his breathing, noting his aquiline nose had a bit of a knot in it now. Reaching into a pouch, she pulled a small, wriggling form out of its wrapper and laid the bluish worm near his nose, watching it affix across the opening.

Diego suddenly sucked in air through his mouth, gagging, and dizzily rolling around slapping at his face.

“Are you awake now Ensign?” K’ner inquired as he realized there was something stuck to his nose, and crossed his eyes to try to get a look at it. Nearby, Billingsly fell backwards over an equipment crate while trying to hold in her laughter.

“That Bayer worm doesn’t like to be touched so don’t try to…”

Rodriguez wailed as he tried to yank the source of the aromatic stench that seemed to permeate his entire lungs, mouth, and throat. Coughing as he reflexively tried to pinch the bug again to get a grip on it. “AhhhHH!”

K’ner repeated herself, wondering when the Ensign would follow her directions. All he had to do was stop moving and stop touching it and it would just fall off.

A few minutes later, when he’d exhausted himself, the worm let go and fell to the deck. Rodriguez didn’t have the strength, nor any motivation to exact vengeance on the worm, he was just glad to be rid of it.

K’ner opened the wrapped and let the worm slide back inside, sealing it securely before placing it back in the pouch.

“Feeling better now?” K’ner asked the reclining Diego.

“oh… my… gosh… I… have… never… smelled… anything… so… so… oh… my…” The wretching only lasted a moment but when he looked up he could see K’ner wasn’t impressed.

“When you get your feet under you, clean up this mess, and complete your studies. Chek has washed his hands of you and has called into question your fitness for duty. Fortunately for you, you’re not on a Klingon vessel and our Operations procedures and standards are less… involved. But seeing as how you have some free time on your hands, I would recommend more practice, especially with the frequency of altercations in our missions in the last couple of years. Do you agree?”

Rodriguez pushed on each side of his nose while exhaling sharply, feeling the sharp throb of his injury but wondering why his hand hurt too. He nodded, “I’ll draw up a holo-program and…”

K’ner interrupted him. “I don’t think that’ll be an option, but you should find some time to stretch and get into better shape.” Her attention diverted to something behind him… “And once you’ve cleaned up, please return that piece of equipment back to its proper location. It shouldn’t have been left here. Fortunately for you, someone left cleaning supplies on it…”

'How odd that." She thought...
