Mayhem and Destruction?

Mission: The days of our lives
Location: IKS Slivin
Timeline: Present

On:
{IKS Slivin, mess hall}

The ship’s klaxon sound went off, jarring Mira from her unconscious stupor on the floor of the mess hall. It took a few, precious moments to get orientated to where she was and what was going on before she jumped up and ran to the bridge. Her head was going to explode and she was, oddly, looking forward to it.

{IKS Slivin, Bridge}

Awal was frowning at the screen. Realizing her mouth was hanging open, she shut it quickly, then gave an order to “Shut that off.” Mira studied the viewscreen. “What happened?” She asked still puzzled.

Awal turned to look at her. “From the readings, I would say 12 or more ships have been destroyed here.”

Mira nodded, moving to the scanner. “different ships from different races. Either this is a graveyard for used ships, or it is a defencive measure. This ship can’t enter that field because we would need shields. We can’t stay cloaked and activate our shields. How long to go around it?”

“About ½ Day. It wouldn’t set us back that much.”

Mira nodded. “Ok, let’s do that and remain cloaked. Too many Nausicaans and Gorn in this area for comfort. Keep eyes trained for anything unusual. I don’t like this. It looks like someone set up a trap for someone.” Mira’s fingertips were rubbing her forehead. It was time for some raktajino to clear the head.

She made a quick stop at the mess hall to pour a cup of Raktajino then she made her way back to the captain’s quarters to change and get cleaned up.

Seeing the meds on the table, she took what was there and chased it down with raktajino. She hoped her head would stop pounding. The room was now clean and smelled like vanilla and something like cloves. Black silk sheets were on the bed with red silk pillows and a black fur blanket. The standard bat’leth was hanging over the bed with her clothing hanging in the small closet. It wasn’t the biggest room she had stayed in; but it wasn’t the smallest, either.

Mira took a seat. In a few days she would be back with her kids. Then, of course, she had to answer all Thor’s questions as to what had happened. She could only tell him what she knew, and it wasn’t much. But she had been doing the research she needed.

Refreshed to start her day and dressed in her black leggings and black crop sweat top. Mira made her way back to the bridge with a Raktajino in her hands.

Awal starts scanning for any life forms on the destroyed ships.

10 minutes in and a ping goes off. “Captain, there’s a life signal” he points to the fourth ship in.

Mira frowned “that could be the trap. Gorn are known to leave an infected Survivor. If we go in? We will need to decloak and drop shields. It would leave us wide open to attacks.” She walked over to the science station to look at the readings.

“Whatever it is the readings aren’t looking good. If they don’t get help their dead.” Mira frowned for a moment in thought. If they were on the Norris she could send in a shuttle but this ship didn’t have one. “if we can get a lock on it we could bring it aboard but I would prefer to know what it is and if it’s infected first. Last thing we need is a few dozen baby Gorn running around on this ship.” She took a seat. “Better have K’ner look at the readings as medical officer she is better to decide if it's safe to bring on board."

Awal taps his coms =/\= lieutenant k'ner report to the bridge =/\=

Sipping her raktajino an odd thought crossed her mind “did I do anything…..unusual last night?” she asked the few crewmen they had on the bridge.

Korra smirked “unusual for who?”

Mira winced as she turned in her chair to look at her. “Ok besides drinking. Did I do anything at all?” there that should get her some information on what had happened because she really felt like she was missing something that took place.

“Oh well yeah. You made at least 3 transmissions that I know of.” Korra told her.

Mira froze “I……” oh by all that was holy “I made 3 transmissions? To who?”

Korra looked the information up. “the USS Conqueror. One you erased and the last one to Starbase 364.”

Mira paled “crap.” Drunk transmissions was never good. The USS Conqueror she had to have talked to Kiara. Then she wondered could it have been K’lar. Either one wasn’t to bad of a problem. Embarrassing yes problem no. The one she erased wasn’t good. Now who on SB364 would she had thought to contact? And why?

K'ner stepped off the ladder onto the bridge, still looking over the readout on her HUD. When the Captain looked her way she faced in that direction.

"Life sign is there, single entity. There's some interference, so it could still be a trap. The signal is weak, although the actual life sign metric itself is strong, so they're not currently in duress. Could be napping, or just relaxed. Standard bio signature, a human or near-based derivative.

"Given the debris and its location, it's not just a survivor from whatever happened to these vessels. It was either left here, or possibly from an escape pod... or it has a small ship or runabout hidden somewhere in the debris field. Another point to something suspicious.

"Given SF regulations to aid those in distress... we haven't actually registered a distress signal. But, to be fair, there's not much out there that might be able to transmit a distress call."

K'ner paused. "Recommendation is to send 2-man scout team, heavy duty suits and propulsion packs rather than engage our ship where we'd have to decloak to engage shields to enter. That would leave us the ability to move under stealth and still be able to maneuver into a position to support, or interdict any hostile forces that make themselves known. Plus they would be much harder to detect, much less hit on the move." She looked at Awal for his concurrence or feedback.

Mira nodded "ok make it so but I don't want our people taking any chances."

K'ner smiled. "We don't take chances... we get results!"

Awal looks at Mira, "I concur with Lieutenant K'ner, a two person scout would benefit our strategy."

K'ner turned and descended the ladder, sending Deena and Kotsoo a message to meet to prep for the mission. With Deena's PJ background and Kotsoo being the other combat medic, they would be very prepared to deal with any medical issue on-site and en route.

{ space... the final frontier... }

Deena tapped the trajectory info on her PADD and went on her tip-toes to release the mag boots so the propulsion pack wouldn't push her sideways before she broke free. She thought she could hear Kotsoo's boost next to her, even though she knew that was impossible in the vacuum around them. The Klingon EXO gear wasn't sleep by any means, but definitely fit the definition of rugged!

They had discussed using two different routes to the target but they decided it would be better to be nearer to each other in case either had any issues. The debris field was easily enough managed, between the scanners built into the bulky suit and the both of them watching. The Slivin would be able to coordinate and warn them as well.

They watched around for any signs of a trap, of course, anything unusual beyond the debris floating everywhere.

"Things are way to still out here. There's the expected shift of loose matter but all this stuff had to have been placed, not exploded in the area or it would've kept going and eventually the place would be thinned out."

Moving around the obstacle course, Deena and Kotsoo hadn't detected a problem until they got within sight of the source of the signal. They both commented on the soft glow around what looked like a small spire of rock, listing to one side among the shards of metal around it.

Now they took wider routes from each other, mostly to get independent scans on their way in. Same signal, same data, almost too rhythmic in cycle.

"Anyone notice a pattern in the signal?" Asked Deena back to the ship.

"Analyzing now," came K'ner's voice.

As they approached, the tint of the glow changed slightly, both noticing but stating a different hue. Could be natural with the angle of light since they were approaching from different vectors. They both chose to land nearby to observe before making the last hop.

K'ner's voice came back on the air. "You are correct, it has repeated the data in two-minute streams. Stay frosty."

Kotsoo had already won the toss with Deena to first approach the target. Stepping off, he tapped a boost and drifted to the shard.

"it's not a natural element after all. It's an escape pod with some kind of growth around it rather than a rock like it looked like. I can see some metal, and some plaz-glass, but just a bit here and there."

He removed a flat bar from a pouch on the side of the suit to scrape at the material. It easily scraped away, "like it was just attracted to the pod, rather than growing on it. I can see some of it re-attaching that didn't float far enough away but I would guess it picked up whatever this is as it passed through from wherever its trajectory took it. it's not attaching to anything else so either the pod metal has some property or maybe picked up a charge that that material is attracted to."

He looked over and watched Deena still looking around. He transmits back to the ship, "Do we want to take the time to uncover it to find some kind of ID? Or we can just bring it back inside, seal off that cargo bay and we'll sit with it until we get to the starbase and hand it off there?" Kotsoo continued scraping off some strips of the earthy material...

Awal chimed in. =/\= seal off the cargo bay, I'll get a rotation of security =/\= as he left the bridge to the security room

Mira frowned wondering if they should have left it there where they found it and put a warning beacon up. They could have just sent the information to Star Fleet. “keep what ever that is contained and ejected at the first sign of trouble. Drop a warning beacon with the information we have just to be safe.”

“Aye Captain”
