Mission: The days of our lives
Location: Federation Space
Timeline: Present

On:

{Jubilant Embrace, Orion Space}

Kevin compared the plotting data he had received against the records in the navigational beacon deployed in the Revla system. Like the ship's engines, the computer and communication array were deceptively simply, hiding highly sophisticated systems that would be envied by captain's of the Federation's most advanced starships. The ship's computer was able to easily defeat the beacon's security systems allowing Kevin access to the records of ship's coming to and going from the solar system.

Several ships had departed along the plot that had been dropped like a bread crumb from Shadow, Kevin assumed, but one had almost immediately gone dark by disabling all tracking systems. He had learned long ago to look for flaws in patterns. Whomever had been aboard that ship was trying to avoid detection and Kevin was convinced that it was Mira.

That conclusion was reinforced by the three words that had accompanied the navigational plot. Kitten. Shanghaied. Orions. He had been inexplicably relieved to read those words. She hadn't left him and the children behind and that the Orions were responsible fit with the ghosts that loomed from her past. Of course Shadow or his masters could be playing a trick on him, but Kevin immediately dismissed the idea. Shadow was a dick but he had always been straight with Kevin. He wasn't deceptive even when he withheld information.

The information from the navigational beacon was associated with an older Klingon Bird-of-Prey, the IKV Slivin. Kevin was shocked to discover when he checked the Federation ships registry that the vessel had very recently been purchased by the House of Rasmehlier. That cemented the idea that Mira was aboard the Slivin.

Kevin programmed the computer to scour the Federation systems, databases and records for information on the most recent references for the IKV Slivin and settled back with a cup of coffee. The replicators, unfortunately, were just as old and decrepit as they looked and the Kona blend in his cup tasted like week-old raktajino. Ten minutes later, Kevin was parsing through the data received.

There was little available after the stardate that the IKV Slivin departed Revla but one piece of information was especially enlightening. An advanced docking request to Starbase 24 for the IKV Slivin. And it was requested by Ensign Sato Chin.

Kevin smiled. Starbase 24 was on a general line towards earth.
Mira was free and on her way back to the children.

"Mika," Kevin ordered through the intercom, "Change course for Starbase 24. Best possible speed."

"Aye, aye, Jar'hann," the Kitsune replied.

Hold on Mira, Kevin thought, I am coming.

{IKS Slivin}

Mira grinned, she had on the black crop top sweatshirt and distressed black jeans. Her hair was still in a viking braid on top of her head with curls hanging down her shoulders.

She gave a practice smile to the communications officer of the base. “we are in need of rations and meal and a few bottles of whiskey then we will be off.”

Mira crossed her legs pretending to look at her nails”

“very well Captain?”

Grinning Mira answered with a half lie. “Rasmehlier. Captain Rasmehlier of the IKV Slivin. “ She really hoped the purchase had been completed by now.

“5 hours?”

Mira nodded “more then enough time to get supplies and food. Thank you.”

The screen went blank. Mira looked up at K’ner “do have your list of supplies?”

"Aye, Captain. And knowing this starbase we can get it all done pretty quickly and be ready for the big show." She smiled in anticipation...

At her nod, “make sure that we use house Rasmehlier account. I want Thall update on where we are at but not star fleet just yet. We will keep them guessing until later. “ Mira felt the ship dock. Then stood.

"We have the account info needed." K’ner had an extensive list of the things she thought they needed. "Enjoy your downtime on the station."

Mira needed some clean clothing and food. Both cats were not happy right now and she had promised lots of meat for them. They could have steak for the rest of the trip or anything else they wanted.

“Are we ready?” she asked her people.

The chorus rang out, "Aye Captain."

{SB24}

K'ner exited in advance, her team moving out in pairs to acquire the items on their lists and return asap. They all knew they could need to be moving quickly once things got... exciting. Glancing around and scanning, nothing seemed amiss. It would be unusual for anyone to be anticipating them just yet, having just shown up and letting clues to be found.

Looking back she nodded at Awal and the Captain, and moved out with her own tasking in mind. "We'll be back here soonest and ready to depart. Holler if you need backup, or you've got a tail on the way back!"

Awal went off with the cats to look for meat and lots of it.

Mira was surprised that everyone just took off in all different directions. Wow. No bodyguard, no baby….. Captain-sitting?

She gave a little shrug. First thing was she was going to toss was these darn uncomfortable boots. She hadn’t been able to find her size on the ship…..well either ship, if you wanted to get technical about it.

There was two boots that caught her eyes, a low heeled pair that reminded her of combat boots “Size 6 1/2 please and black.” She told the woman, then kept looking. There was a soft sole boots that came to her ankles “and these, size 6 ½ as well.“

Slipping off the boots she had on, she grabbed some clean socks. Tossing the things she didn’t want to make room for clothes. Boxers, tank top, leggings and Sweaters was added to her bag and paid for.

She made her way back to the ship, dropping off her bags. She walked to the promenade in need of a serious dose of caffeine. Raktajino and coffee was being sent to the ship, but she needed a cup now. The smell just made her smile. Drinking it while she walked into the restaurant.

{Moonbeam club}

It was one of the nicer clubs on the base but not stuffy. “I need a large table for 10.” She didn’t have that many people, but the ones with her needed the room. No one likes to be squished together.

“I’ll order our food now.” She told the man as she took a seat. “24 burgers and fries. 20 steaks cooked medium rare with loaded baked potatoes. 3 pitchers of tea and 5 pitchers of beer. Two extremely large bowls of gagh.” Looking over the menu she nodded “12 orders of brownies. and if they are still hungry, let them order what they want.” Mira placed her thumb on the padd, changed to her 2nd account and added a tip to ensure they were well taken care of.

The man’s eyes widened but he smiled. “Yes, ma’am”

“Oh and a bottle of your best whiskey “ She was going to need that. Mira grinned as she waved the crew over as they started to enter. “I ordered meat and potatoes but if you want more just order it. After what we have all gone through we need it.”

Mira took the bottle handed her but waved the glass away. “I have beer and tea coming but if you want something stronger, order it. “ she took a long swig from the bottle before asking any problems getting the things on our list?”

Deena and Korra had come in first and quickly sat as the drinks arrived, promptly pouring all around. Deena replied for their trip, "Yes Captain. Easy-peasy when Korra starts winking at the hapless young clerk."

Korra adopted a hurt look. "Winking??!! I think not! More like rolling my eyes, that kid was young enough to be a kidling."

Deena laughed. "Right now he's still telling his buddies that you're coming back to try on that skumpy outfit!"

Korra rolled her eyes in realtime, downing a mug and reaching for the pitcher.

Nod and Kotsoo had just sat down, the Klingon a bit mussed up but she was smiling, at least for a Klingon, others might think she was angry about something and give her plenty of space.

"And you two?"

Kotsoo nodded his head. "Aye Captain. Took two trips and we left a grav sled at the dock to be picked up later by the vendor. I don't think they'll be coming for it just yet though..."

Nod's smile grew and she emptied the tankard, slamming it down on the table and yelling, "Bring more!"

"And K'ner? She hasn't been held up has she?"

Kotsoo paused as he looked at his forearm PADD, tapping it a couple of times, then started to look up but stopped, then looked at the Captain to avoid looking around. "She's completed her tasks. She's here but hanging back, just in case."

Mira nodded her understanding. K’ner was an odd bird at times. She didn’t think her Doctor liked being in crowds. To tell the truth, she didn’t like it much, either, hence why she had a bottle in her hand. “Ok then, she is back up.” Mira nodded. “Make sure she gets some takeout. We have been on cut rations since we left the IKS KNOKTOR.”

As the food started to come, she smiled. the crew had no problems enjoying good food. “better send more beer and a lot of bloodwine,“ she told the man putting plates of food down. The two bowls of gagh got put on the floor for the cats, who dug in like the half starved little beasts they were.

Then Mira cut into her steak. “Awol you get everything you needed?”

He nodded. “Cooler on the ship is filled. We will be eating well.” He told her, cutting into his steak. “So How do you want to have this play out?”

Mira chuckled. “In the past, the people I was with got into a lot of trouble. I had to back them up. Or there was a game called truth or dare we played that started a riot once. BUT, since Kolar and I are mated, no dares that would make us break our promises to our mates.”

“You mean we can ask you anything and you will tell us? Or we dare each other to start something? Where?”

“There is a bar on the docking bay level called Corks. We get the fight going. Once the fight is in full swing, we sneak out. We depart the base and keep going. I can’t remember what the next Starbases are called.”

Mira drank more from her bottle, wiping her lips with the back of her hand. “Whatever, we forget here we will get at the next base, start a fight and leave.” She waved the waiter over. “Send a case of this to my ship.” She held up the bottle then mumbled, “hopefully, I will be able to sleep at night now.” While on the planet, the sheer energy she had used up let her sleep but now? Not so much.

Mira had an idea, then pointed her fork at Awal. “Also, if we see an argument, we antagonize enough to turn it into a bar brawl.” She chuckled, that had always been easy to do. She tosses two of the steaks to the cats.

Once she was filled, she leaned back in her chair. The sugar in the brownies was going to kick in any moment now.

Her drunk and hyped up on sugar was an interesting combination.

“Have you tried to contact Kevin, directly?” Awal asked her.

“Chin did only…….. “ she frowned thinking about that. “It was either someone else had his commbadge or he didn’t care at all. So no. I am thinking we are just on our own and we get to earth to get our families. The refit on the Norris is almost done and I need to handle some problems on SB364.”

“Problems?” Awal asked.

Mira sighed “Challenges.” She shrugged. “Marriage proposals, one the chancellor is backing. Still, I want a few days off ship with my kids.”

{Jubilant Embrace, Enroute to Starbase 24}

The program that Kevin had constructed quietly sifted through the data stream running through the Starbase's main computer system, taking notice of the coming and goings of vessels and personnel recorded through the station's traffic management systems. It diligently went about its task unnoticed by the security programs. When it came across the data that it had been told to look for, it sent a routine maintenance message to Star Fleet Materials Command.

The computer at StafMac took note of the message and authorized requisition of the appropriate replacement parts as well as prioritized movement of the parts on an emergency logistics package and notified the duty officer of satisfactory completion of its task.

The StafMac duty officer added the information of the maintenance failure and corrective actions to the daily log that was later briefed to the head of StafMac and her counterpart in Operations.

The report of the maintenance failure surprised the Operations head and he reached out to the commander of Starbase 24 to ask why the failure of the station's water reclamation system wasn't in his previous report. The Starbase commander expressed confusion as there was nothing wrong with the water reclamation system, a fact confirmed by the base's chief of engineering and maintenance.

Aboard the Jubilant Embrace, Kevin received notice of the coded message sent by his program, indicating the arrival of Mira and the IKV Slivin. His ship was still two days away and he expected that Mira would leave before he arrived. He launched a second program that would monitor and inform him of the Slivin's departure and hoped that Mira wouldn't change ships.
