Mission:
The days of our lives
Location: Knoktor
Timeline: Present
On:
{Knoktor}
Mira put the plate and mug of raktajino down on the table and frown as she sat down. Klingons preferred their food fresh, as did Caitians. The food was freshly made and hot, only she had no idea what it was. It was in the human area of food selections. It had said it was French toast, but it was dripping in something sweet. Mira stabbed it with a fork. It seemed safe enough to eat.
K’ner and the rest of her crew sat down around the table with their own food, diving in like they didn’t know when the next meal would come. Mira leaned closer as she spoke. “They aren’t giving us all the facts. We need our own exit plan. I don’t like any of this.”
K’ner nodded. “Agreed. We’ve been giving this ship a quick look. Mostly stock with a few mods that aren’t surprising. She is minimally crewed, which also means short-staffed on defense as well. If… and I think it’s likely, given the circumstances, anything goes wrong, this recent arrival will be a quick target for any pursuit.
“Korra has slipped into their systems. The security was amped up but she has his ways to deal with that. Deena checked out the runabouts in the hangar. The captain’s boat is nicer, obviously.
“Kotsoo got as close to engineering as he could, but there are ways to analyze from other locations. The ship is healthy enough but, as you say, we will likely need a plan B, so he’ll be looking at other opportunities when we get in closer. Nod has been re-familiarizing himself with the vessel, but other than being his usual Klingon self, he’s been giving them something to watch.
“We’ve identified a couple of hidey holes, an extra special surprise in the weapons array, torps with a potent payload, as well as some overload programming on the phaser banks. They won’t last very long like that, but I’m sure they don’t care about the lifespan of this craft beyond a certain point. Korra thinks it’ll make a great distraction when we’re making our getaway elsewhere.
“At least we have the next destination already in hand…” K’ner paused. “I don’t trust your friend, she has more secrets than anyone. She has to know we’ll have our own plan in place, and maybe she’s counting on that in the end?”
Mira smirked as Awal placed a plate of crisp bacon down on the table next to her. “Should I ask how you got that?”
He chuckled. “You just have to know how to handle cooks.” He pointed to the cats that had their own huge bowls. She gave him a smile then turned back to K’ner.
“Agreed on the exit plan. Last mission turned out to be everyone for themselves and why I left the team. Get non-descript civilian clothing, Weapons, Food, water and anything else we can take. I need to get a message to Kevin.” Her fingertips rubbed her forehead thinking. “We can’t send it directly to Kevin. I think they might have someone watching him or, at least, his messages. Short single pulse burst with 3 words should cover our message piggybacking on data. Send the message to Chin. They shouldn’t be watching him.” Mira took the PADD held out to her. “We picked this language up in the Matrix so only he should know it.” Mira typed in 3 words. “Kitten, Shanghaied, Orion.”
Mira frowned. She really hoped he understood that message. She wanted to say “I love you. I need your help. Isbethal kidnapped me for a mission on an Orion planet. Come get me!” but she only had three words. It wasn’t giving Kevin much to go on and it wasn’t the three words she wanted to say to him. Like ‘I love you’, but if she sent that he wouldn’t understand she was in trouble. She handed the PADD back to K’ner.
Awal stole a piece of bacon, then gave a peck on Mira’s forehead, I’ll be back he said.
He left without saying what he was going to do. He knows there are certain panels and wires that run throughout the place.
Awal was able to scout a location out that is a Blindspot to security. He walks back with a cup of bloodwine.
A Caitian woman named C’Nill joined them at the table she nodded at everyone as she sat down and smiled. “So are you going back to looking like this?“ She held a PADD with a sexy scantily clad woman with fire red hair and green eyes.”
Mira frowned. “Aquamarine eyes.” She pulled a lock of her auburn hair to look at the dark auburn curl. She could always change it back. “Fine.” Mira smiled as Awal came back. “Ok time to hide all things star fleet. The aren’t welcome where we are going.”
With a smile on his face which he hardly ever has unless he’s up to no good.
Mira shook her head at his humor “You know we are both in trouble with our mates.”
That’s good he laughed. He leaned into Mira’s ear…I found a blind spot with an access panel, I can encrypt a message only Kevin can crack and as he pulls away I’m craving pizza does anybody want a slice? Asked Awal
Mira frowned but nodded, “a slice?” She looked around the table and laughed. “Bring the whole damn pie. I have a feeling we might need the calories.” Mira’s eyes narrowed on C’Nill as Awal walked away. Now that he put the idea of pizza in her mind, she really wanted it. But, before that, she needed some answers.
“What is going on? What ship are we on?” Mira asked.
C’Nill seemed a little surprised. “You’re on the Knoktor and you’re getting a make over.”
Mira frowned. “The Knoktor is one of my ships. Then I am ordering it to return to Beta Antares.”
C’Nill frowned. “Why would you want to go back to Beta Antares when Kevin isn’t there and your kids are going to Earth? Did you really have two kids? With him? It doesn’t seem like a thing you would do. After all, you wouldn’t have a baby with Kolar.”
Mira winced as if she had been hurt and, in truth, it had hurt hearing that, because it was true. All the treatments she had been going for hadn’t been to get pregnant, it was to make sure she didn’t. In the end, she had overcome the news that Kolar wasn’t some simple Klingon captain of a ship, but he was a head of a large and powerful house that he had built himself. Kolar had wanted a heir to take over all he had built.
When he had started to talk about adopting, Mira had stopped taking the medication and she got pregnant faster then she had thought possible. It had changed things for her. Knowing she had a little life growing inside, but everything she had feared happened. Kolar had left her on the operation table without a word. Then he was gone. Death had made that permanent.
Vaytoc, sensing she had gone down the dark rabbit hole in her mind, he joined her. Putting his large furry head on her lap was enough to pull her mind back in the present. Without adding to all the craziness involved with the birth of her children.
Mira held up her hand to show the ring Kevin had just given her. “Yes. Now why do you think Kevin isn’t on Beta Antares?”
She leaned forward and whispered. “He got sent on a mission.” She sat back in her chair like she hadn’t just dropped a bomb on Mira’s life.
Mira let loose a string of curses in 15 different languages ending with “Son of a targ!” Her hand covered her face. “I am sick of people messing with my life!”
That’s it, Mira thought. Operation FU Was going to start. She patted Vaytoc’s head to get him to stop growling, only to realize that sound was coming from her. WELL CRAP.
Games within games and plans within plans. New plan. Her plan was going to have to be made.
“Vaytoc…” Mira turned slightly at K’ner’s voice, her mind obviously working at high speed. “Anyone who’s kept track of you would definitely know about him. He’s going to have to stay away from you for a while, and we’ll have to give him a dye-job.”
Mira sighed, her fingers ruffling her companion’s coat. “What do you have in mind.”
“Deena. She’s good with animals, and she’s already connected with him to a certain extent in the past. They’d at least be able to discern each other’s intentions, and he wouldn’t be all that far away if we should need his assistance.”
Awal joined them with the pizza. To keep from letting anything slip, she shoved a piece in her mouth taking a big bite. OK, Gossa and Ngalal were going to have to die. Since they seemed to still be after her for whatever reason. She had always thought her brother was behind her kidnapping. He did have dealing with the Orions. But Angel’s name being brought up out of nowhere like that had been unsettling. Still, she doubted Angel, at 19 years old, would come up with a plan to kidnap a group of woman. Angel wasn’t Angel Rodale. She had killed and taken her brother Von’s symbiont and went by Angela Lox. It hadn’t slipped her attention that C’Nill hadn’t answered her about turning the ship around. Blasted!
K’ner waited until C’Nill had gone for a refill and spoke quietly. “I’m curious. Just what is in this for Isbethal? I know she’s not doing the FOR you? What’s her angle?”
She watched the dots move around on her internal HUD, keeping track of the current residents. She’d almost prefer to be dirtside now, even with all the variables.
Mira frowned, thinking that question over. What was Isbethal up to? “I hired her to look into the disappearance of people I worked with years ago. Thinking, if I had gone missing, I would want someone looking for me.” She gave a little shrug. She had the resources, why not use them?
“This ship.” She waved a finger around the room. “She shouldn’t have. It belongs to the Rasmehlier house. While this is a Klingon ship, it should have a Klingon crew. Oddly, it does have some, but entirely too many section 31 crew.” She narrowed her eyes, looking around. “Maybe ex section 31?” Mira wasn’t sure.
“I am not sure what’s going on. That temporal agent just said, if I didn’t go on the mission, then the Orions would kill Kolar and make off with my daughter and myself. But if Kevin had been called away on a mission, then why not tell me? Why make plans for a vacation on earth?”
Awal frowned. “Probably planned to get you to a safe place while he was gone?”
Mira frowned. “maybe whoever is pulling Kevin’s strings wanted me out of the way? Still, I would think there would have been a better way of doing that besides putting me in the middle of Orion space!”
Mira’s hand hadn’t lifted from Vaytoc’s head. His purrs soothed her nerves. Since coming back from the Matrix, Mira hadn’t been able to sleep without being in Kevin’s arms and Vaytoc had taken to following her around just to keep her steady.
“The borderlands are probably the worse area of space to be in. At least they aren’t taking us to the processing station on Verex III.” Mira told her with a frown.
Putting the pizza down, Mira reached for the PADD C’Nill had brought with an image of her as agent Whisper. “At least I am not out of shape. I should be able to pull this off. But …”
She frowned. “Should I?” if she kept letting people manipulate her, would the game never end?
She picked up another slice of pizza. “We go along with things for now as we work out an exit plan, then head to Earth.”
Then she looked to Awal. “Did you get the message to Chin?”
He nodded. “He should be getting it. But, if Kevin isn’t there to get it, not sure what good it will do.”
Mira nodded then turned to K’ner. “What are you thinking for Vaytoc’s disguise?”
