“Where are the female pens?” Kevin demanded as he slammed his fist into the face of the hapless guard that he had gotten his hands onto. The guard struggled and babbled in a language that neither Kevin nor Sehket could understand. This was the third guard that he had interrogated but Kevin was no closer to finding Mika than he had been since she had been taken forcibly away

There was a deep, visceral satisfaction in releasing the aggression that had been building up over the past couple of days, a sheer joy in enforcing his will over those who would have mistreated him. Blood covered his hands in a mosaic of red, green and blue and the periodic points of warmth that he felt on his face left little doubt that splatterings speckled his head and torso as well.

“Where!” – Pound – “Are!” – Pound – “They!” – Pound.

The guard finally went limp in his hand, blood flowing from a broken nose and long cut on one cheek.

“Another dead end,” Kevin remarked as he released the guard and picked up the rifle that he had found on one of the guards. Sehket stood wide-eyed at the violence that he had witness and swallowed nervously. He dared not say a word.

The sound of gunfire continued to erupt from outside the building as the released captives took their revenge on their jailors but it seemed that over time it was receding. Kevin approached the door to the courtyard and peered out. The scene was a mass of wounded and dead, mostly captives but with a fair number of guards mixed in as well. The vehicle that they had ridden here was gone, either stolen by the escapees or lucky enough to have left before the jailbreak commenced.

Deciding that it was safe, Kevin exited the main building heading towards where he had seen Mika taken. It was a smaller building off to the side of the adjoining courtyard he was crossing. The doors to the building were closed and refused to open when tried. Taking the control box that he had taken from the guard in the main building, Kevin waved it over the doors’ control panel. There was an audible click as the locking mechanism disengaged.

Upon pulling open the door, he was met with a fusillade of gunfire. Kevin pressed himself to the side of the door seeking cover. When the fire slackened, he reached his own weapon around the edge of the door and fired blindly. There was an exclamation of alarm but no further fire.

Kevin entered with his rifle at the ready. A guard sprang up from behind a large desk. Kevin adjusted his aim and took down the attacker with three rounds. The room fell silent except for the whimpering coming from behind the desk where he had shot the guard.

Behind the desk, next to the body of the guard that he had just shot was the head slaver that had betrayed Sehket in the courtyard. The man stared at Kevin, his eyes wide with fear. “Don’t shoot!” he begged as his hands shot into the air.

Holding the rifle trained on the slaver with one hand, Kevin grabbed the man’s shirt with his other hand and pulled his up from behind the desk.

“One chance,” Kevin offered, “Where is the girl that we were brought in with?”

“They put her into the cells with the other females,” the man blubbered, “When the prisoners escaped, I ordered them taken to an alternate site! Please don’t hurt me!”

“Where?”

He pointed down the corridor towards the back to the building.

“You’re coming with us,” Kevin ordered as he pushed the slaver in front of him.

The corridor led past cells similar to the ones in the main building and exited onto a loading dock. A truck like the one that had brought them to the complex was pulling away while a guard secured the door on a second truck. Her back was to Kevin as they entered the loading dock. Taking as careful aim as a single hand would permit, he let loose a hail of shots at the guard. Many of the shots went wide of their target but enough hit to drop the woman from behind.

Sehket ran up to the back of the vehicle and opened the doors. “Mika! Mika!” he called out urgently but he was rewarded only with blank stares and then a sudden rush as the women in the vehicle saw their chance at freedom.

“She’s not here,” Sehket shouted as he sidestepped the rampaging women.

“The other truck,” Kevin concluded and he dragged the head slaver toward the cab of the vehicle. The driver wasn’t a guard and held her hands up to show she wasn’t armed. “Can you follow the first truck?” he asked fiercely.

The woman nodded rapidly and Kevin turned to the head slaver, “Looks like you have outlived your usefulness.” He pushed the man away a fired two shots into his head. The sense of fulfillment was overwhelming.

“Into the truck, Sehket!”

The Cardassian boy quickly complied and Kevin climb up onto the running board on the side of the cab. “GO!” he shouted at the driver and the vehicle lurched forward.
