Mission: The Zaj
Location: Deep Space Nine
Timeline: Present

{Deep Space Nine}

Michael Intermeezo stood on the main promenade of the station and waited for beam out. But the beam out never came. The man quickly realised that in the rush to beam the crew back to the Chuck Norris before DS9 raised shields meant that some of the crew would be left behind. And it appeared that he was one of several crew members that hadn’t been beamed back in time.

Instead of cursing, as he naturally would have done in similar situations, he rushed his way towards Deep Space Nine’s ops. There was a rush of people all looking for cover from the impending attack.

Stepping into the lift he ordered the device to take him to the station’s main operations. Within moments the lift had arrived in ops. Michael could see Colonel Kira and her senior staff glaring at the main viewer, watching the dozen or so Zaj ships take formation a few hundred kilometres away from the station.

“I thought you’d be on your ship.” Kira announced loudly, not taking her eyes off the main viewer.

Michael stepped forward and took up position a few feet from Kira. “I didn’t get the chance before you raised shields. Very impressive how quick you got them up by the way. It must have been seconds after the Zaj started coming through the wormhole.”

“Yes, well, I’m sorry about that, Captain.” She apologised, seemingly sincerely. “But I’m afraid that you’re stuck here with us for now. I can’t afford to drop the shields, not even for a second. Not after what those things did to this station the last time they decided to pay us a visit.” She paused for a moment and turned her gaze towards the man, “Will your crew be alright?”

Michael nodded and smiled, “They have my full confidence. There’s some good people on that ship. And they’d hit the Zaj back a hundred times harder if the Zaj decided to try their luck against them.”

“Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that this time.” Kira said solemnly, turning her attention back to the main viewer. “Dax, any luck with our hails?”

“Nothing yet, Colonel.” Commander Ezri Dax spoke aloud. “Zaj vessels have come to a full stop and adopted an arrowhead formation. No indication that their weapons are powered up or not.”

Kira frowned. “Well this is new. They certainly didn’t hold off like this last time.”

“Maybe they’re waiting for something?” Michael suggested.

“Hmm.” Kira hummed in semi-agreement. “But waiting for what exactly..?”
