Handing Over The Reigns

Ready Room, USS Chuck Norris

The two men had been sat for almost an hour, reminiscing about their old days, and the adventures that they’d been on since they last met. A shared bottle of Cardassian Kanar had helped the memories re-emerge, although quite foggily by the time the bottle was empty.

“Well, I guess I’d better head off.” Paxton grudgingly got to his feet and stretched his back with a sigh. “Admiral Benson is awaiting my arrival on Starbase 3, and you know how he gets if he’s kept waiting.”

Mike smiled and nodded, “Indeed I do, old friend.” He stretched out a hand. Paxton looked at the hand and the men smiled. Mike lowered his hand and the men embraced each other as the old acquaintances that they were. “It’s been great seeing you again, Pax.”

“Same here.” The man replied. “Well, I guess there’s only one thing left to do.” Paxton nodded, “Computer. Transfer all command codes to Captain Michael Intermeezo, voice authorisation: Beckett-Four-Nine-Beta-Alpha.”

“Transfer complete.” The computer announced blandly.

Mike smiled, “I relieve you, sir.”

“I stand relieved.” Paxton nodded.

And with one final nod reflective of the mutual respect the men had for each other, Paxton departed the ready room. Mike suddenly found himself alone with his thoughts. And an empty bottle of Kanar. “Computer, replicate another bottle of Kanar. A 2327 vintage.”
