Paxton entered the small room and looked around. He couldn’t help but feel that he was standing on Winters’ grave each time he came into the room. Winters wasn’t dead of course, but given that the previous CO of the Chuck Norris was on a deep cover mission, he wouldn’t be back anytime soon.

The man moved around the desk and took a seat in the comfortable chair that waited for him. He glanced at the decorations and paintings that hung in the office, and his mind once again returned to Winters. He’d never met the man, but he felt that he was almost stepping into the man’s life. It was slightly unnerving. “Computer. Remind me to redecorate the ready room in the coming days.”

“Acknowledged.” Came the simple reply.

Paxton picked up a padd from the desk and read about nebula again. It was going to be a risky mission, that was certain. But the years of experience and knowledge that Paxton brought with him would surely benefit the crew and be advantageous if they were to find themselves in a tight spot.

He got to his feet and looked around the office once more. It was time to set off. Time to get the ship and it’s crew on their way. Time to face whatever destiny lay before them.
