This time of morning was even early for Mira, but since her ship would be leaving shortly, she entered the Vulcan ship for hopefully her last appointment with Skalvunn.
Entering into his office, Mira nodded. "Good morning, doctor."
He inclined his head and waved to one of the cushions. "And how are you handling your memories. "
Mira wasn't sure how to answer that. "I feel fully reconnected to Rodale." Even if she was terrified most of the time. What helped the most was Vaytoc. Somehow, Rodale knew he was near and calmed.
He nodded, sitting next to her. "Did you experience any difficulties from seeing Rashard?"
Mira thought back to yesterday in SB364 medical. Mira wasn't sure what she expected. Perhaps the man would jump up and yell, 'Got ya! Still here.' Came to mind. but he hadn't.
Skalvunn had nodded to her in Greetings. "Are you prepared?" His voice was calm and reassuring.
Mira shook her head no. "but I need to do this." She answered honestly.
He nodded, waving her to follow him. "I had looked at the medical records. It was heart failure, but what caused it is undetermined."
Mira nodded, watching as the doctor lifted the sheet. The scar Rashard had on his chest was visible. Mira wasn't sure why she had fixated on the scar. She had just always wanted to stab him like who else had done before. Not that she would admit to that.
She nodded, stepping back into Kevin's arms. "Thank you, doctor."
Skalvunn nodded, "If you have need of me, we can have an earlier session. " His eyes went to Kevin, then he nodded before covering the body.
Kevin gently led her out.
"He is really dead?" Mira was still a little shell-shocked. "Perhaps we should check with the doctor to see if that could happen to us too?"
Kevin shook his head no, "K'ner doesn't make mistakes. Everyone will be fine. You need to stop worrying. Let's get you home. I think you need some rest. I will see to getting the ship ready to depart."
Mira nodded she was emotionally drained. Cuddling with the kids for a nap sounded good to her.
And here she was again, sitting in the doctor's office, losing her thoughts. What had the doctor asked her? oh, right.
"I was very tired and went to bed early once I had the kids asleep." She had fallen slept on the couch next to Vaytoc until Kevin had returned. She was assuming Kevin had just picked her up and put her in bed because in the morning, they had both been sleeping in bed.
Skalvunn nodded. "That would be expected. " he held his hand up. "Are you ready to begin?"
Mira nodded as the doctor started the process for the next few hours.
As the rest of her memories came floating in Mira, watched in a mix of joy and horror at the events that had happened in the last ten months.
The Vulcan doctor nodded. "That is all of it."
"Do you think I am fit for duty?" Mira asked, questing everything at this point.
Skalvunn raised an eyebrow "Yes but you still have to remember. You are on light duty only because of the birth of your daughter. There are some things you haven't dealt with in the death of your first mate."
Mira nodded. "I know. but it is difficult to yell at a man who abandoned you and then went off and got himself killed. I did love him, but not in the way I love Kevin."
Skalvunn watched her then nodded. "If you have need of me, I will aid you."
Mira nodded as she stood “grow old in wisdom doctor.”
“May I ask you one more thing. When the Orion’s take prisoners. “
Mira frowned understanding the information he might want. “they are taken to the nearest processing facility then sold. As either slaves or …. food.”
Skalvunn nodded it was what he had wanted to know.
Mira left the office.
She had been wondering why the Orion’s would recapture past prisoners. Everything they did, they normally did for profit. Very much like the Ferengi. Why spend the extra time and Latinum ? Whey could make up the Latinum lost easily. The man that had bought her had been killed. She frowned, stepping off the ship. Well, Kolar had killed him and in a very unpleasant manner. He said he was sending a message. She had asked him what that message was, and he just smiled. "Don't touch what's not yours."
Was this a message, too? We keep what is ours? She hoped not. Because she didn't belong to the Orion’s.
Kevin was waiting for her outside of the Vulcan ship, PADD in hand. He looked up as she exited. "Did the doctor get you sorted out?" he asked.
Mira nodded, a smile playing on her lips at seeing him outside. "All clear. We went through all the memories and have ....." she frowned "Well we looked at them. I still can't believe I went through all of that." She gave a little shrug.
Kevin fell into step with her as they walked along the corridor in the direction of the Chuck Norris. "We need another six hours before we can depart the Starbase," he reported, "Lieutenant Walker is still trying to ferret out some unexplained power drainage. Likely caused when we pulled away from the alien station."
"That is a good possibility." She took his arm as they walked. "Once Walker is satisfied, the ship will make it to our destination, then we will leave. "
"Star Fleet is assigning our repair work to the Beta Antares docks but there is regular service to the Sol System," he said, "We can still go to Earth if you want."
Mira nodded. "We could. Do you think it's safe? Last time I took that kind of transport it didn't work very well."
"There is one other point that I feel you should be made aware of." Kevin wasn't certain that he wanted to burden Mira with the information, but he felt that she would want to know sooner than later, "The autopsy on Captain Rashard revealed that he was Orion. All the Star Fleet records on him, however, state that Rashard was an earth-born human.
Mira stopped walking, still clutching his arm. "Are you sure?" At his nod. She frowns. "So star fleet is keeping it quiet?"
"The information just came to light," Kevin replied, "and I don't think that Headquarters has had time to come to grips with the implications. I am going to do a deep dive into Rashard's history and try to reconstruct what was going on."
They stepped into the turbolift. "Docking ring, port 32," Mira ordered. The turbolift began moving."
"Do you think that he was an Orion all along?" she asked.
"Don't know at this point," Kevin confessed, "The string of assaults on Federation personnel is so unexpected it could indicate a traumatic event or something else that would cause that radical change. Until we figure out what is going on, expect myself, Kronnelti or Rogar to be with you at all times."
Mira nodded her consent she would let him do whatever he felt best. "So probably because he drew too much attention to himself, they ended him?" Mira shook her head that didn't seem right. They wouldn't want anyone to know they had put him into place. They would have removed the body. It was evidence.
" He made to many enemies." she nodded that fit. "That ship has to have a few more of them on it. Otherwise, they could not have covered up that he wasn't human. Someone on medical." She was glad they were leaving perhaps it would give the base security time to clean this mess up.
"We are going to need to run another scan of the ship for bugs. To many people other than our own has had access. " That had been another mystery they hadn't seen to unravel.
The door opened. walking out, they nodded to the security officers on guard.
"You look completely done in," Kevin said, "Spend time with Kolar and Ashla. Get some rest. I will let you know when we are ready to depart."
Stepping on the Norris made her feel better. It just felt safer anyway. "Yea, just having someone else walking around in my mind is draining then processing what I saw?" she shook her head, happy that was all over with. "I'll get something to eat, then maybe get them both down for a nap." She kissed his cheek. "Thank you."
