Trace was in his office on the Starbase pouring over data collected from the transcription of the writing from the ruins when a knock at the door interrupted his train of thought. He looked up, finding Geneva standing in his doorway.

"Hi," she said, that smirk of hers pulling the edges of her mouth up. Trace's heart skipped a beat at the sight of her. It was a feeling he'd felt before with his first wife, Evelyn, but never again. If he was being honest with himself, it scared him.

"Hey," he said, not knowing or not willing to add more.

"Wanna talk about what's going on between us?" She said, coming in and sitting on the edge of his desk. She was wearing her uniform, the optional kind for women, with a tight fitting tunic and skirt with long knee length boots. Good lord she had great legs.

"I uh...I should really get these reports..." He muttered.

"So, you're scared." She said, not in a challenging way but as a statement of fact, almost as if telling herself something she suspected.

"Now wait a minute." He protested, his manhood seemingly in question.

"It's ok, Trace." She said, locking eyes with him. There it was again, that moment of connection he couldn't put aside, but the same one that made him want to run for the hills.

"I understand...I do...and," she hesitated, "and I'll wait. A day, a month, a year, I'll wait."

She got up leave. Trace hesitated, then said "I didn't ask you to, you shouldn't have to waste your life because I'm too hung up with my past to commit to a relationship."

She nodded, but kept walking. "I know you didn't, but you see, I know something you don't."

"What's that?" He said.

"We're meant to be together. I've never been more sure of anything my whole life. You think you're doing me a disservice by giving yourself to me, but you're not. I've been around, Tracey Walker, you're not my first man, but you're the one I want, I can feel it. And if takes you time to come to that on your own, I'll wait for you. Come find me when you come to your senses, okay?"

And with that, she left, leaving him sitting there in silence.

Off:
