The away team was sheltered in a valley among the foothills of the mountain range that the Elionians had attacked from. Night had fallen and Mira was waiting for the Norris to come into range. She had decide that violating orders regarding use of transporters was outweighed by the need to get here wounded to safety. Kevin and Geneva injuries were not immediately life threatening but Lockhart has suffered a grevious wound defending Lieutenant T’Pralik and would not survive the week-long trip back to the science encampment. It might cost her command of the Norris but she didn’t care. Her people were more important than her career.

Kronnelti fussed over the improvised signaling system, boosting its power with all of the available crystal batteries that they could scrounge. In theory, the signaling systems would be the strongest source of light on the planet, something that the Norris could never miss. Using an emergency binary code, the away team could signal the ship. Mira hoped that Lieutenant Commander Montgomery would obey her as Captain rather than the standing orders given to them by Star Fleet. Soon she would know.

Kevin was bearing his injury as stoically as he could but Mira noted the straggled cries of pain if he moved in the wrong way. Lockhart, mercifully was unconscious, was being tended by Rogar. She was diligent in ensure that as much of his blood as possible stayed inside his body. Geneva was the least injured of the three but she played up her wound to Trace as much as possible to solicit a caring response from the Chief Engineer.

When Mira judged the time was right, she began sending the coded message that she hoped would be seen. Halfway through the fourth iteration of the code. Three of the scientist disappear in a flash of the transporter beam. Mira smiled as she walked over to where Kevin sat.

Mira, Kevin and K’ner rematerialized aboard the Norris. Mira immediately stepped off of the transporter pad and pressed the button on the comm panel. “Lieutenant Commander Montgomery,” she ordered, “this is the Captain. Inform me as soon as all of the scientists and away team are aboard.”

Kevin took three steps off of the transporter pad and immediately collapsed to the deck. K’ner was on him in an instant. “He’s going into cardiac arrest!” she announced.

The sick bay was on the same deck only three rooms away but Mira ordered, “Emergency transport to sick bay!” The transporter tech’s hands moved across the control panel and both Kevin and K’ner disappeared.
