On:
Just after the last briefing Trace pulled Geneva aside. “Hey, what the hell was that?” He asked. “I never agreed to be your dom. I’m nobody’s second. I thought you understood me better than that.”
It was true they hadn’t known each other very long, but they connected on some level Trace couldn’t really explain. They had spent hours talking, about their pasts, their hopes and dreams, what drove them. As far as he could tell it wasn’t romantic in nature, aside from a little flirting here and there, more of...soulmates?
At the very least he thought she knew enough about him to know he wouldn’t take kindly to the situation he found himself in.
She looked him in the eye. “I do understand you Trace.” She said calmly, and took his hand in hers. “And I know that while you’re capable of being an Alpha, I also know that you don’t do anything for pride. What do you think is the better strategy, that you be in front if something should happen or if I’m in front, and you’re free to come in from the side?”
“Bait and switch," he said, nodding, "But that'll make you a target.” He protested. “I don’t like that.”
"You don't think I'll be a target either way?" She asked, looking into his eyes. Her heart skipped a beat, that connection taking hold of her. "I don’t like the idea of standing on the sideline while you're in harm's way. Trust me, this is the better play.”
He sighed and she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Besides, what’s wrong with the woman being on top?”
There it was again, that flirty smirk. Trace didn't know what to do. There was something deep and meaningful there, he could feel it like he could feel nothing else, but he knew from experience that romance could ruin a thing like this, and he didn't know that he was ready to give it up just yet.
“You know,” he said, “You don’t want to tangle with me like that…I gotta be twice your age," he said, looking down.
She leaned in, putting her lips close to his ear and whispered, “I’m older than I look.”
