The thirty-third biome was almost entirely vacuum. The crew couldn’t live in hard vacuum so it puzzled Kevin why that had been created. The only logical explanation was that there was some means for the crew to survive in that biome. Unfortunately, the space had been shielded against their scanners so they were unable to perform a more detail analysis.

Rodriguez turned from his console to face Kevin. “Capt…Commander, I think that I have found something,” he stated hesitantly.

“What is it Mister Rodriguez?” Kevin responded without looking up.

“The comm badges of the missing crewmembers are still showing active,”

That got Kevin’s attention. “Really? Can you get a location on them?”

“That’s just it, sir,” Rodriguez whined, “The computer is reporting all of the comm badges are on board Norris.”

That made no sense. “Explain.”

Rodriguez spread his hands. “I can’t,” he admitted, “I have had operations teams check the locations but nothing was found.”

“Strange. You ran diagnostics?” Better to ask than to assume.

“Several times,” Rodriguez reported, “No anomalies detected.”

An idea was forming in Kevin’s mind, “And the comm badges are showing as operational?”

“Yes, sir”

It can’t be this easy, Kevin thought as he tapped his comm badge and spoke, “Lance to Intermeezo. Report in, please.”
