Mira sat on the floor in the operations room, listing to 3 people arguing over the best way to fix the console. Mira had told them before that they had rerouted too many systems through that panel, but they didn't seem to want to listen to her. No wonder why things weren't getting repaired. People were too busy arguing.

She looked over at the chronometer, and they were 2 hours overdue to report back in. But, with all the interference in the area, finding the ship would be impossible. Captain Shrun was probably right. Staying put was the best game plan. Otherwise, they would all be lost.

The operations chief just pulled opened the console, planning to add yet another rewire to it and adding who knows what else to that mess. Mira closed her eyes and slowly counted to 10. If things hadn't settled down by then, she was going to go see what Kronnelti was fixing because this department was nuts.

The next thing she knew, Mira was looking up at the ceiling, and her ears were ring. it only took a few more moments to recognize she was in pain. Her left leg and arm were on fire. There had been an explosion. She had warned them there were too many systems running through that console.

An officer was looking down at her. He was talking, but Mira couldn't make out the words. Then she saw Kronnelti’s face before something was pressed to her neck. slowly, all the pain receded as she fell asleep.
