Q flashed into existence before Kevin and Trace, “I supposed that you are both wondering why I called you here.”
Kevin gave the Q an expression that was clearly meant to convey, “Really?”
“Since you both chose to make me remove you forcibly,” Q continued without acknowledging Kevin, “we are going to have a little fun and play a game of tag.”
“Isn’t that a little childish,” Trace asked dismissively.
“Perhaps,” the Q nodded, “but the stakes are anything but. The rules are simple. You have to catch me before you are caught. I will warn you, though, that if you are caught, you will be out of the game…permanently.”
“And if we catch you?” asked Trace.
“In that unlikely event, I will cease my attentions towards Mira,” the Q explained, “but you will need to be quick. I think that she is starting to warm up to me.”
“Highly unlikely,” Trace said. Q merely shrugged in response.
“If we are chase you,” Kevin asked, “who is chasing us?”
As if in response, a low pitched bellow was heard in the distance instantly turning the Star Fleet officers’ blood cold. “Targs,” Q replied matter-of-factly, “Or rather their more primitive and vicious ancestors.”
“And don’t worry about Mira,” Q flashed into the form of Kevin, complete with beard, wearing a duty uniform. “She’ll be well taken care of.”
Kevin reached out to grab him but before he was able, Q flashed out of exsistance.
The bellows of the targs were closer now.
“You had better run if you don’t want to be targ’ed,” Q’s disembodied voice called from a direction opposite their pursuers.
“Move it,” Kevin shouted as he began running towards Q’s voice.
