Flank... UP?

Posted on Wed Oct 11th, 2023 @ 3:02pm by Lieutenant Betaras K'ner

Mission: The Return
Location: Ground base station...
Timeline: current

K'ner shifted quickly to cover when the phaser blast hit the station's shields above. 'What the hell?' she thought to herself as she confirmed the rest of the squad were under cover as well.

"Peke... nothing new from comms?"

She was sure was sure he was shaking his head when he didn't answer, then she heard, "No sir, still jammed, but the drone is nearing the big building so maybe we can reach Cdr Rodale and get their status soon. What the heck is going on up there?"

K'ner let out a sigh. "Not our circus, not our monkeys, let's concentrate on down here, that we CAN do something about." They hadn't recovered any more personnel and it appeared the Undine had realized their trap was sprung, and not as well as they'd hoped, thus retreating to wherever they could hide and hole up.

She was just about to get the squad moving when multiple large blasts impacted the shields... "COVER!" She shouted, and not a moment too soon as the station's generators gave out and the remaining pulses rained down around the buildings.

"Sound off!" She watched the green dots appear in the HUD in her visor, pleasantly surprised to get them all. She'd have to put an eyeball on everyone, to be sure, but it was time to get back to the commander and see what she wanted to do.

"Peke, send up the high-shot drone with a burst transmission to the Norris so they have our updates up to this point. Leave it there as a relay in case we need it. I don't know what's going on up there, but they're probably a little busy at the moment."

K'ner waved the squad forward, noting that while everyone was still in the fight, no one had gone unscathed. These damn Undine were a biotch to deal with. She felt good that only one squadee had gone down so far, and he'd been returned to the ship before all the jamming started.

"Haz Team to Rodale... Haz Team to Rodale... high altitude relay in place. We've shot a tight-beam update to the Norris. Opfor have vacated the area and we are inbound to your location."
