The more things change

Posted on Mon Sep 4th, 2023 @ 8:59am by Lieutenant JG Keti Korcus

Mission: The Zaj
Location: USS Chuck Norris, Engineering
Timeline: Enroute to DS9

Keti sat on the knee high equipment crate next to the warp core feeling numb. There had been a lot of work to begin and he had set a rigorous schedule now underway to see it done in time. Lost in his own thoughts he pondered the escalating situation while staring at the warp engine readouts on a datapad without really taking them in.

*How had it come to this?* He asked himself

*This spiral of fate like echoes of the past repeating...Back on DS9, an 'alien' threat from the Celestial temple, some had even postulated this could be a 'dominion like' threat to us all.... by the Prophets i hope not... What could we have done for the Prophets to send us this trial? or at least allow it to pass through and find us? * Keti stood up suddenly from his thoughts and walked quickly to the warp cores main console having been snapped back into the moment by a change on the readout.

A few further screen taps had 3 separate diagnostics checking the likely possibilities for this energy flow variation and its inevitable effect of engine performance.

As he waited staring at the diagnostic results as they loaded line by line his mind wandered back into himself.
*Its almost funny how often I have left this corner of space only to be dragged back here... The Prophets weave a strange web sometimes.. and we can only do what we can do with the time and opportunity allotted to us....
I hope to the highest of highs we don't have to work with any Spoon hea* his thought was interrupted by the alert chime notifying him that the final diagnostic result came in and the computer had identified a wider systemic issue with potential ship critical consequences.

They would need to drop out of warp for a at least an hour and repair a critical micro fractures to the nacelle tips and the underlying alignment shift they had caused on the eps relays. Then continue at a lower warp for the duration while the repairs 'settled in'. The Captain wouldn't like the delay but he was certain he'd prefer a ship at that could more 'safely' engage in combat at warp without disintegrating form a lucky hit or have the engines blow out when at maximum warp due to overstress , the upside to this would be that the Chuck would be, form an engineering perspective at full battle readiness and better than when it came out of dry dock with the additional time his teams would have.

=^= Keti to the Captain...=^=
