- Main Promenade, Starbase 10 -

Steven rushed through the crowd of people that had gathered to see the arrival of the USS Chuck Norris. It was now mere minutes away from docking with the station, and Steven didn’t want to miss the sight of his next ship arriving.

He managed to squeeze to the front of the crowd, and pressed up against the unreasonably large windows that looked over the base’s docking facilities. He was pushed forward by someone behind him, squashing his nose up against the window. But he didn’t care, he had ‘front row seats’ for the arrival.

A bright blue flash in the distance caught his eye, and mere seconds later the Chuck Norris came into view. It travelled quickly towards the base, before slowing down gradually as it got closer. The hull of the ship was clearly damaged and scorched in places. Steven wondered if this was from a recent skirmish or a historical dogfight.

As the Defiant-class ship disappeared underneath the window (and into the docking facility), Steven turned around and made his way back through the crowd. He wanted to be down there for when the ship completed its docking procedures. Making a good impression with the Captain would be vital to his career.

He once knew an Ensign who tripped over his own feet as he met his Captain, falling onto his senior officer and inadvertently injuring them both. Suffice to say that the Ensign didn’t last very long on that ship, as innocent and faultless as that accident was. Steven hoped he wouldn’t make the same mistake, no matter how unlikely it was.

He entered the turbolift and ordered it to take him to the Chuck’s position.
