"Guys, I must give you guys some credit. This ship is in even worse condition then when I first came on board. Thank you for all your hard work. Now I have both good and bad news. What do you want first?" The chief engineer asked his small department.

"Give us the bad first." The reply came back almost immediately.

"Ok, so no one is getting off until these systems are operating at required efficiency." He told them

Almost immediately you could hear the groans of dissatisfaction erupt throughout the ranks. Sighs, and minor complaints could be heard as well. "What's the good news?" Someone called out. For a moment before the chief could speak you could hear the heartbeats of all the individuals inside the room.

"Being at the Starbase, you all will have 4 days off, while the captain gets the next mission briefing. Now keep in mind, if there is an emergency that I reserve the right to call you back. So lets fix this right the first time. Otherwise your leave will be affected if something is found wrong with your section. Now the extra good news is a few of the station engineers will be assisting us.

A few cheers could be heard as people were glad for a break after this.

"Now, get to work, you know what needs to be fixed, ill be in the warp and plasma manifolds if anyone needs me." G'ginloss said to them all.

............Several hours later..............

"Chief, im having trouble with this dilithium matrix and the usage of the crystals." Aurther said

"Click, humm..... One moment Aurther. Thrum.....Thrum......Thrum.....
Ech'am wheeled back out of the manifold and looked up at his handywork. Both appeared to be working correctly now. Once the crystals were activated correctly the main issues should be solved.

Walking over to the dilithium chamber was tricky with so many people working in the already small area. So messy yet things were begining to look as it was when he made his overhaul before this past mission.

"naDev jatlh ghaH" Looking at the chamber, it had small shards and dust powder. "Aurther, what have you been able to fix?"

"Power routes, the flow matrix and the ootonix flash timers for proper power rays to amplify the distribution rates."

"Good, speak with Charles, the head engineer from the station. He should know if they have any for this ship, or how long it would take to get one for us. Inform me when you have this information." Ech'am told him as he left to find Charles.

The next few hours were spent conducting various tests, looking over work being completed and ensuring everyone was being fed during there work. Klingon raktaginos were served to everyone as needed. No other coffee was allowed in his department.

"Chief, we have one." Aurther excitedly called out as he was followed by Charles.

"Well done, now to get this changed out."

Charles and Ech'am worked together, being the heads of their department. The others handed tools and whatever else was needed as the two worked. It was not a quick job, nor was it easy. Eventually it got to the most critical part of this whole job, the proper alignment of the crystals. Any incorrect adjustments would mean the destruction of the crystals. Time slowed down to a crawl, as no one dared to breath.
