{Planet Onassis}

Pibb, Hauser, Wright, Kronnelti and Van Hendrix slowly made their way towards the Captain’s position. Three kilometres of travel in this desert-terrain had caused each man to perspire heavily. “Lucky that we’re not down here for much longer,” Hauser panted, “Or I’d need to treat us all for dehydration.”

Pibb read the tricorder in his right hand before snapping the device closed and placing it in his pocket, “The Captain is just up ahead. One more sand dune and we’ll be there.”

The men crouched down just prior to reaching the peak of the dune. It gave them an excellent view down to the small camp below. Pibb could see Captain Winters and Wyatt, two armed guards, and an unknown man. “Security seems light.” Pibb whispered. “Dr Hauser and I will move down closer to the camp and approach from the right. The three of you lock on to those hostiles with your phasers. Any aggressive action on their part, you put them to sleep. Understood?”

The crewmen nodded before Pibb and Hauser moved quickly down the right side of the dune. Within moments they had reached the camp, somehow completely undetected.

“Captain!” Pibb exclaimed in an exaggerated volume, drawing the attention of the guards.

The two guards turned to face Pibb and Hauser, drawing their weapons. Without a second’s hesitation, the two were hit by phaser blasts from the dune above, sending them crashing to the ground. “Nice shooting guys!” Pibb smiled.

Captain Winters couldn’t believe his eyes. His crew had found him. “Pibb! Hauser! How did you..?!”

The man who had been sitting patiently while the action unfolded around him got to his feet quickly, grabbing one of the guard’s weapons. Before anyone could react, he took Wyatt in a headlock and aimed the weapons towards the intelligence officer’s temple. “That’s just about enough.” The man growled, “Call off your dogs, Captain. Grand Marshall Sobko isn’t going to be screwed over like this. Not after all the hard work I put into getting you here.”

Winters slowly stepped closer to the man, his arms open and palms facing upwards in a non-aggressive manner, “Sobko, its over. Put the gun down and we can discuss this like gentlemen. Nobody else needs to get hurt.”

“You don’t understand,” Sobko frowned, his face becoming contorted with emotion. “My sons were everything to me. Absolutely everything. And someone needs to answer for their deaths!” He pushed the weapon harder into Wyatt’s temple causing the intelligence officer to wince in pain. “If this man won’t be accountable for their deaths, maybe you will.” He raised the gun towards Winters and prepared to shoot.

There was a loud smack, and the man fell to the floor unconscious. During the tense exchange, Hauser had covertly moved around the back of the camp and ambushed Sobko by cracking him on the back of the head with a phaser, knocking the aggressor unconscious.

Wyatt turned around, completely surprised. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m John Wyatt.”

Hauser smiled, “Doctor Daniel Hauser. I hope this doesn’t turn into a habit, Wyatt.”

“What?” The intelligence officer looked puzzled.

Hauser’s smile turned into a grin, “Rescuing you like this.”
