A Step Too Far

Mission: Trial by Fire
Location: Bridge, USS Chuck Norris
Timeline: Present

Rory threw his duffel bag under the console that the Captain had pointed out to him and took a seat at the science display on the bridge. There wasn’t a lot he could do as far as scientific studies or scans were concerned, but at least he could set up his user accounts and cross-match that with what the ship’s systems had in place for him currently.

He looked around the bridge once again, trying to take in people’s faces and listening out for their names. He certainly felt like the new kid in class, but hoped he would earn the respect of his colleagues in no time.

The console beeped loudly, bringing his attention back to the screen in front of him. His passwords had expired and he needed to input new ones to be able to access the Chuck’s systems. Why did everything need a password these days? He tried his favourite colour, but that wasn’t good enough. He needed to add a number to it. So he tried his favourite colour with his lucky number. Still not good enough. He needed to add a symbol and a capital letter to his password too before it was accepted.

He leaned back in his chair, exasperated. Hopefully most days onboard the Chuck Norris wouldn’t be this frustrating. Eventually he entered a password that the computer accepted, and he breathed a sigh of relief. He could now focus back on routing the science labs readouts to his current position on the bridge.
